Individual Tours
Albania 2024 & 2025
“For me, Albania is the country of contrasts. Here I discover fascinating historical buildings in the middle of the urban hustle and bustle of Tirana; relax on fine sandy beaches, but also explore majestic mountains and ancient forests. It has just the right amount of everything: rich history, relaxation, culture, nature and warm hospitality. And it has something that you might find a little more often here than anywhere else: magical lost places that send shivers down your spine.
In Albania, I can also take wonderful journeys through time. I start in prehistoric times, for example in the fantastic nature at Lake Prespa and encounter Illyrians, Romans, Greeks, Venetians, Ottomans … on my way towards the present and finally the communism of recent history. This mix is unique and I never get bored of my excursions into Albania’s past. On the contrary, with every new detail I discover a new secret is discovered – and I simply have to come back.

Albania - Cultural highlights
The harbour city of Durrës is a wonderful place to trace Albania’s long, eventful history. Here you will encounter Illyrians and Romans, Byzantines and Venetians, Ottomans and Serbs – and tread on historical ground, as the Brother Battle between Julius Caesar and Pompey took place here. For art fans, the city’s lively street art scene will be a real treat.
Another historical gem is Berat, the ‘city of 1,000 windows’. The countless houses of traditional Balkan architecture climbing up the hill have earned Berat the title of ‘most beautiful city in Albania’. Berat’s Kalaja, the fortress, is also exciting. Here you can experience an entire district within the fortress walls with old churches and mosques, ancient stone houses that are still inhabited and line winding alleyways.
You will experience a particularly strong contrast on your tour of Albania when you arrive in Tirana in your hire car. In addition to historical beauties, the communist buildings are still a reminder of a rather dark chapter of recent history. Nowhere can you encounter this more excitingly and authentically than in the two Bunk’art Museums in the city, which are housed in old bunkers from the Hoxha dictatorship.
Albania - Incredible natural diversity
From picturesque beaches to snow-covered heights, your Albania round trip will take you all the way. Leave the hire car behind and conquer the sacred mountain of the Albanians, the Tomorr. Here you will experience the change from dense, pristine forests to green, from rocky heights up to the icy white summit realm. You will pass clear springs, rare plants and some majestic animals such as the giant golden eagle.
Discover a wonderful paradise near Pogradec when the panorama of Lake Ohrid spreads out before you from the castle ruins above the town. This deep blue gem, surrounded by lush green mountain slopes, is not only the oldest lake in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also a wonderful bathing paradise and an exciting playground for nature lovers.
Albanias Culinary delights
Albania’s chequered history has also greatly enriched its cuisine. Oriental and Mediterranean influences meet here. Typical of Albanian food: People like to cook without a recipe, but with a sense of proportion. This is why the same dish often tastes very different in different regions. You will therefore rediscover classics such as byrek or quofte time and time again. In general, Albanian cuisineis rich in vegetables such as peppers, spinach, aubergines and tomatoes. On the coasts and the large inland lakes, fish and seafood dominate the recipes. Further inland, they are more meat-heavy, with meat varieties ranging from poultry to goat and lamb to beef. The dishes are mainly accompanied by rice or potatoes.
Albanian cuisine is a treat for the palate because it is very spicy: garlic, basil and oregano as well as cheese and olive oil make for a culinary potpourri on the tongue with savoury dishes. The desserts in Albania are often very sweet, as you can taste the oriental influence here, for example in the delicious baklava, which is very popular in this country.
Accordingly, you will often find Turkish coffee on the menu in Albania, as well as espresso or mountain tea. Buttermilk is often served with savoury dishes. Lovers of a good drop of wine can savour the local wines that have been produced in Albania for centuries. Alternatively, you could also try Konjak Skënderbeu or a Raki.
Experience Albania up close
On your Albania tour, you can of course discover your favourite destinations with guided tours. But we want to show you more than just this still quite public part of Albania. That’s why we take you on special, authentic experiences that bring you right into the heart of people’s everyday lives or reveal less official secrets.
For example, take a trip into the world of Birra Korça, one of the country’s most famous beers. In the brewery, you can follow the brewing process right through to the finished beer in the glass – and of course taste it too. You are sure to hear one or two anecdotes from the brewers about the beer and its history.
