Geotoura – Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels – Four categories
Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.
Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.
Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.
Luna de Miel (“honeymoon”): For the honeymoon – span. Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
Experience culture
Surrounded by picturesque vineyards and with the river Drava, Slovenia’s second largest city offers an absolute postcard motif. Maribor’s old town centre is not only home to the beautiful Renaissance-style town hall. In the small alleyways and squares, you can immerse yourself in the vibrant life of this young university city.
Take a closer look in Zagreb, because the city’s architecture, which was characterised by the Austro-Hungarian Empire, has a lot to tell – such as the cathedral from its 400-year construction period. A highlight of a different kind are the numerous, sometimes unusual cafés that lovingly preserve Zagreb’s coffee culture.
Architecture fans will also get their money’s worth in Opatija. Here you can indulge in Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture with various influences, in the richly decorated Secession style and in Neoclassical buildings. The seaside resort of Pula not only attracts visitors with its fantastic beaches, but also gives you a taste of antiquity. Be sure to visit the ruins of the amphitheatre, the old city walls and the Temple of Augustus.
Zadar, situated on the Dalmatian coast, is a cultural highlight on your 14-day tour of Croatia. Stroll through the Roman Forum, which is surrounded by St Mary’s Monastery. Numerous other ruins from Roman and Venetian times allow you to immerse yourself in the past on the peninsula.
Experience nature
Croatia is known for its unspoilt and wild natural landscape. But it also invites you to unpack your parasol and beach towel and enjoy the sea. On this 14-day round trip by car, you will experience all of the country’s natural facets.
And this starts in the green city of Zagreb. The most popular is Maksimir Park, the largest park in southern Europe, which has served the city as a picturesque recreational area since 1787. Stroll along well-tended paths through botanical gardens that will remind you of English gardens, past small pavilions, imposing oak trees and small lakes.
The Plitvice Lakes National Park is a true natural spectacle at the end of your round trip through Croatia. Hike through the lake area, which is criss-crossed with waterfalls and spectacular limestone gorges. A landscape that seems to be from another world.
Croatia culinary treasures
No question: Croatian cuisine is meat-heavy and not very delicate. Rustic, traditional recipes still characterise the everyday lives of many families and restaurant menus. Meat, vegetables, potatoes, olive oil and herbs are on the menu. Only on the coast are fish and seafood common. Sounds a bit too simple? But it tastes great.
Croatians particularly love dishes from the peka: the ingredients simmer for several hours in this cast-iron pot. Take a look at the lid and let yourself be seduced by the aroma – and the butter-tender meat.
