Geotoura – Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels – Four categories
Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.
Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.
Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.
Luna de Miel (“honeymoon”): For the honeymoon – span. Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
Experience culture
It could have been yesterday when the light-coloured paving was laid and the sandstone houses were built. The town is still as pretty and well-kept today. With Stari Grad on Hvar, however, you are entering the oldest town in Croatia. People have lived in this small town between the dark green pine forest and the turquoise blue sea since the 4th century BC. Zadar’s Roman Forum is only around 200 years younger.
You can also trace the history of Roman and Greek antiquity in Trogir. Perhaps the most skilfully crafted detail of your entire trip, however, comes from the Middle Ages. The portal of St Laurentius Cathedral in Trogir is not only a masterpiece of Romanesque stonemasonry. It also opens a window into the past and a book full of fascinating stories. Linger here during a shore leave on your cruise and study the filigree figures and stories in light-coloured stone.
At the end of this impressive journey, Dubrovnik, which looks like an open-air museum, should of course not be missed. Enjoy the unique views of the Adriatic Sea and the city from the massive city walls and reflect on your trip.
Experience nature
Croatia’s coastline is rich in spectacular scenery. One of the most beautiful opens up just behind the picturesque town of Omiš. A goosebump journey also begins here at the majestic cliffs: Take a boat up the Cetina river and feel tiny among the rugged, grey-green slopes of the canyon.
You can also find a wonderful piece of nature where you might not expect it: in Zagreb. The largest park in southern Europe was created in the east of the city back in 1787, and with its pretty little pavilions and lakes in the shade of mighty oaks, it lets your mind wander. Maksimir Park is an oasis where the big city suddenly seems far away.
Croatia culinary treasures
No question: Croatian cuisine is meat-heavy and not very delicate. Rustic, traditional recipes still characterise the everyday lives of many families and restaurant menus. Meat, vegetables, potatoes, olive oil and herbs are on the menu. Only on the coast are fish and seafood common. Sounds a bit too simple? But it tastes great.
Croatians particularly love dishes from the peka: the ingredients simmer for several hours in this cast-iron pot. Take a look at the lid and let yourself be seduced by the aroma – and the butter-tender meat.
The authentic Croatia
Just a few paddle strokes by boat from Zadar’s coast lies a hidden gem: the island of Pag. It’s not just its ruggedly beautiful landscape that makes it stand out. The island at the gates of the nearby city has a cosy and traditional feel.
Take a look at the skilled hands that make the famous Pag lace, for example, or taste the flavoursome cheese and aromatic olive oil that are still produced on the island in the traditional way. Wherever you stay on Pag during your round trip, you will be right in the centre of everyday, authentic Croatia.
