Geotoura – Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels – Four categories
Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.
Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.
Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.
Luna de Miel (“honeymoon”): For the honeymoon – span. Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
Experience culture
Zagreb shines with its Austro-Hungarian-influenced architecture. Take a close look, because the details of some buildings have a lot to tell – such as the cathedral from its 400-year construction period. A highlight of a different kind are the numerous, sometimes unusual cafés that lovingly cultivate Zagreb’s coffee culture.
Architecture fans will also get their money’s worth in Opatija on this 15-day round trip to Croatia. Here you can indulge in Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture with various influences, richly decorated Secessionist style and Neoclassical buildings. The seaside resort of Pula is not only blessed with fantastic beaches, but is also a wonderful window into Roman antiquity. So be sure to stop by the ruins of the amphitheatre, the old city walls and the Temple of Augustus.
The whole cornucopia of history pours out when you arrive in Venice in a hire car: St Mark’s Basilica, the Doge’s Palace, the Libreria Vecchia and numerous other buildings by famous architects will amaze you and let you admire the craftsmanship of past eras. Our tip: It’s worth getting up early. Then the still quite empty streets and canals have an almost magical flair.
Experience nature
Croatia is known for its unspoilt and wild natural landscape. But it also invites you to unpack your parasol and beach towels and enjoy its beautiful beaches in the fresh breeze. Zagreb itself is also characterised by its greenery.
The most popular is Maksimir Park, the largest park in the whole of southern Europe, which has served the city as a picturesque recreational area since 1787. Here you can stroll along well-maintained paths through botanical gardens reminiscent of English gardens, past small pavilions, imposing oak trees and small lakes.
On this 15-day round trip to Croatia, you will also land on the “Zagreb Sea”, as the locals call the huge Lake Jarun. The lake and its islands are bordered by beautiful pebble beaches and a park that makes the big city seem far away.
Croatia culinary treasures
No question: Croatian cuisine is meat-heavy and not very delicate. Rustic, traditional recipes still characterise the everyday lives of many families and restaurant menus. Meat, vegetables, potatoes, olive oil and herbs are on the menu. Only on the coast are fish and seafood common. Sounds a bit too simple? But it tastes great.
Croatians particularly love dishes from the peka: the ingredients simmer for several hours in this cast-iron pot. Take a look at the lid and let yourself be seduced by the aroma – and the butter-tender meat.
