Geotoura – Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels – Four categories
Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.
Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.
Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.
Luna de Miel (“honeymoon”): For the honeymoon – span. Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
Explore the north of France at your own pace on this 16-day round trip in your own car. ‘The journey is the reward’ is the motto when you discover the beautiful Loire Valley with its medieval towns and vineyards on the journey to the picturesque Atlantic coast. Our route also takes you to the highlights of Normandy, as well as to the world metropolis of Paris, where you can get a taste of the city air at the end of the journey.
Experience culture
Your tour of France in your own car takes you through historic cities and cultural treasures. Start in Reims, where you can admire the impressive Notre-Dame Cathedral – a masterpiece of Gothic architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On your way to Blois and Tours, the magnificent castles of the Loire await you, such as Château de Blois and Château de Chambord, which offer you an insight into the life of the French aristocracy.
In Caen, the Abbaye aux Hommes, founded by William the Conqueror, and the imposing Romanesque abbey church of La Trinité await you. Paris is also a cultural highlight of your trip – from iconic sights such as the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre to charming neighbourhoods such as Montmartre.
Nature paradise Northern France
The journey along the Loire from Blois to Tours takes you through a picturesque landscape of rivers, forests and extensive vineyards. In the south of Brittany, the Gulf of Morbihan impresses with its idyllic islands, which are wonderful to explore by car.
Rocks that glow in shades of pink and red: This unique natural spectacle will accompany you during your stay on the Côte de Granit Rose. You can explore the rugged coastline particularly intensively on a hike along the customs officers’ path. In Normandy, the gentle hilly landscapes around Caen will entice you before you cross the forests of the Vexin Français nature reserve on your way to Paris.
Culinary delights of Brittany and Loire Valley
Brittany and the Loire Valley are not only a paradise in terms of landscape, but also in terms of cuisine. In Brittany, you can expect a rich selection of fish and seafood dishes. Breton cuisine is famous for its oysters from Cancale, fresh lobster from Roscoff and the typical galettes, savoury buckwheat pancakes filled with a variety of ingredients.
The Loire Valley, on the other hand, is dominated by the culinary delights of the inland. The region is known for its excellent wines, especially the fine wines from Sancerre and Vouvray. These are often served with local specialities such as ‘Rillettes de Tours’, a hearty spread made from pork. Another highlight is the region’s goat’s cheese, such as the famous ‘Crottin de Chavignol’, which goes perfectly with a glass of fresh white wine.
The authentic North of France
This round trip with your own car not only offers you flexibility, but also time and tranquillity for unique experiences off the beaten track. In Reims, you can take part in a guided tour of the champagne cellars and discover the secrets of champagne production. There are many small wineries along the Loire that you can visit spontaneously to sample local wines.
On the way to Caen, make a stop at the famous Mont-Saint-Michel – a true marvel of architecture that becomes an island at high tide. To round off your trip in Metz, visit the magnificent Saint-Étienne Cathedral, which is famous for its beautiful stained glass windows.
