In the footsteps of antiquity - Living history at every step

“When I think of Greece, I naturally think of the great myths, the Olympus and the magnificent ancient civilisation, whose buildings and ruins still amaze me to this day. The Acropolis in Athens, the ruined city of Monemvasia, the Apollon Temple in Corinth, …

But I also think of picturesque coastlines, sleepy mountain villages and almost bizarre beauties such as the floating monasteries of Metéora. Greece nourishes the soul with its beauty, its ancient traditions that are still cherished today and its rich artistic treasures. It nourishes the body with its savoury cuisine, in which the olive oil from its sun-drenched groves is a must. This makes it a destination that you can enjoy with all your senses.

By the way: Your Greece tour can also start right on your doorstep. Depending on where you are departing from, we will also plan and organise the route and your accommodation in the transit countries to your destination.”

Tips for your Greece tour

Driving in Greece

As a rule, the driver of a hire car in Greece must be at least 21 years old. Some providers make an exception. However, they often charge a risk surcharge. For higher vehicle classes, a minimum age of 23 or even 25 years may be required. It is also possible that a minimum driving experience is required. Depending on the provider and the vehicle class rented, this varies between one year and five years. Please note: You will not be able to hire a car without a credit card.

What driving licence do I need?

It is possible to hire a car in Greece with a German driving licence without any problems. The national driving licences of the EU member states are recognised in Greece. Of course, the driving licence must be valid. Therefore, please check the expiry date in good time before travelling.

Traffic rules in Greece

Right-hand traffic applies in Greece. Traffic signs are usually written in both Greek and Latin script. At roundabouts, priority is given to the vehicle entering the roundabout if there are no signs to the contrary, so vehicles often slow down at roundabouts.

Parking rules in Greece

Please take a close look, Greece has an unusual regulation: In ‘odd’ months all no stopping signs with one vertical line apply, in ‘even’ months the signs with two vertical lines apply. Parking is prohibited on priority roads and where there are yellow markings on the edge of the carriageway. Areas marked in blue are subject to a charge; parking is free of charge in areas marked in white.

Tolls on motorways

If you want to drive on a motorway in Greece, you almost always have to pay tolls. You can pay the amount due in cash at the relevant stations on your route.

Speed limit

A limit of 50 km/h applies within built-up areas, a maximum of 90 km/h is permitted outside, 110 km/h on dual carriageways and 130 km/h on motorways.
