Geotoura – Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels – Four categories
Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.
Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.
Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.
Luna de Miel (“honeymoon”): For the honeymoon – span. Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
Experience culture
Greece is the epitome of ancient civilisation. This glorious time comes back to life on your tour of Greece. In Athens, stroll through the time of the ancient gods on the Acropolis and walk through the mighty columns of the Agora.
You will encounter the poets, thinkers and philosophers of antiquity at every turn in the Greek capital – and perhaps take a detour in your hire car to the famous oracle that prophesied the fate of mankind in Delphi.
With ancient Olympia, you are not only entering the birthplace of the world’s most famous sports games, but also the birthplace of the fascinating idea of peaceful competition between people. Between the rocks and the sea, you wander through the winding alleyways of Monemvasia and end up in the Greek Middle Ages on your journey here.
Peloponnese culinary treasures
As in all regions of Greece, there are traditional and local delicacies that you should not miss out on when travelling through the Peloponnese. While fish and seafood dominate the menus in the coastal regions, traditional specialities such as kakavia, a kind of bouillabaisse in which the fish is served separately, or stifado, a stew usually made from beef or rabbit meat with an extremely tasty sauce to which cinnamon and cloves add the finishing touches, can be found particularly in the small tavernas inland.
Savour the Mani Syglino, pork smoked in sage, or the Mani salad, a delicious potato salad with oranges, capers and fresh herbs. Vegetables are not neglected in the ‘Garden of the Gods’ either, as fruit and vegetables are grown here in large quantities. Anthús, courgette flowers stuffed with rice and herbs, okra pods or beans in tomato sauce, artichokes and aubergines prepared in a variety of ways, fresh fruit not only delight the palates of vegetarians. Of course, the tasty olive oil from Kalamata should not be missed – it also tastes delicious on its own with white bread. Around a quarter of the wines from Greece come from the Peloponnese, so you can also indulge yourself in this respect.
The authentic Greece
Leave the hustle and bustle of the cultural metropolis of Athens behind you and land at the hidden gems of the Peloponnese on this tour of Greece. Discover the small, cosy town of Gythio, for example, where octopuses still hang out to dry in the sun and the aromatic seafood that the local restaurants conjure up from the fishermen’s catch of the day smells wonderful.
And did you know that there were also sports games not far from Corinth? Even today, you can almost hear the cheers of the spectators in Nemea when you stop here in your hire car and walk across the ground of the Nemean Games. The small town also produces some excellent red wines, which you can savour here with hearty local cuisine.
Or would you prefer a bit of great history on this individual trip? Then why not follow in the footsteps of the great King Leonidas in Sparta or relive the games in the city’s amphitheatre in your mind’s eye while you sit on the ancient steps in the sun.
