Geotoura – Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels – Four categories
Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.
Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.
Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.

Character of this travel idea
Cultural experiences
The famous Minotaur is said to have once lived here: in the labyrinth of the Palace of Knossos. To this day, it is the most impressive building reminiscent of the great civilisation of the Minoans. The rulers once sat on the alabaster throne – and impressed their subjects with artistic murals and the sheer size of the palace, among other things.
A good 4,000 years later, things were much less stately in the caves of Matala. They had discovered the flower children for themselves and celebrated a free life here that even attracted greats such as Bob Dylan and Janis Joplin. Joni Mitchell even wrote “Carey”, a song about the small town whose caves still fascinate people today.
Your hire car will take you to a very green gem in the otherwise very dry Crete on this 10-day round trip through the west of Crete in the island’s interior. Zaros is fantastically beautiful with its lake, traditional houses and small cafés that smell of fish from this very lake.
Experience nature
As if the maw of the earth is opening up on the island, the Samaria Gorge tears through the rocks of Crete right at the coast. In some places only a few metres wide, a path leads you along the steep rock faces and over small wooden paths directly over the water. At 13 kilometres, it is one of the longest gorges in Europe. The route climbs more than 1,000 metres and passes trees that are thousands of years old.
The Psiloritis takes you even higher on this 10-day round trip through western Crete. The highest mountain on the island attracts mountain hikers in particular to enjoy the fantastic panorama from its slopes and heights.
Crete – healthy delights
Cretan cuisine is simple and rustic, regional and seasonal, healthy and … above all delicious. In addition to freshly caught fish and seafood, the menus also offer numerous dishes with lamb, mutton, rabbit and goat meat. What makes Cretan cuisine special is the variety of starters, the mezedes or pikilia. Prepared with the best olive oil, aromatic herbs, plenty of vegetables and pulses, they spoil the palate whether fried, baked, deep-fried, marinated or puréed.
Soups, stews, casseroles, desserts and wines complete the culinary programme of your tour of Crete. Start with dips and purees such as fáva, melitzanosaláta, skordaliá or chtipití and savour the delicious fish and meat dishes, accompanied by tasty tomato or cucumber salads or dákos or choriátiki, filling salads with plenty of sheep’s cheese.
