Geotoura – Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels – Four categories
Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.
Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.
Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.

Experience culture
The Acropolis and the Agora in Athens, the Palace of Knossos near Heraklion … On this 15-day round trip through Athens and Crete, you will experience the major highlights up close. But the route will also surprise you with the other, less well-known side of its stops.
For example, cross over at Elounda to Spinalonga, the eerie island of the lepers, who lived here isolated from society until the 20th century. In the middle of it all, however, is a modern-day inhabitant of Crete, to whom your hire car will take you: Maria Zacharioudakis. You can still look over her shoulder in Zaros as she practises the ancient art of hand weaving.
Or you can visit Antonios Stefanakis, a traditional instrument maker known far beyond the region.
Experience nature
The mighty cliff face above Matala beach is full of holes, like a Swiss cheese. Not so many years ago, the caves from the distant past were the colourful home of the flower children. Even today, they are famous for the commune that lived in this dreamlike setting right by the sea.
On this 15-day round trip through Athens and Crete in a hire car, you will discover another breathtaking natural monument. The 600 metre high walls of the Samaria Gorge are less than four metres apart in some places and fascinate visitors with the sheer size of the gorge alone.
Take up the challenge and explore the huge gorge, passing bizarre rock formations, cool waterfalls and many caves yawning in the karst rock.
Crete – healthy delights
Cretan cuisine is simple and rustic, regional and seasonal, healthy and … above all delicious. In addition to freshly caught fish and seafood, the menus also offer numerous dishes with lamb, mutton, rabbit and goat meat. What makes Cretan cuisine special is the variety of starters, the mezedes or pikilia. Prepared with the best olive oil, aromatic herbs, plenty of vegetables and pulses, they spoil the palate whether fried, baked, deep-fried, marinated or puréed.
Soups, stews, casseroles, desserts and wines complete the culinary programme of your tour of Crete. Start with dips and purees such as fáva, melitzanosaláta, skordaliá or chtipití and savour the delicious fish and meat dishes, accompanied by tasty tomato or cucumber salads or dákos or choriátiki, filling salads with plenty of sheep’s cheese.
