Geotoura – Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels – Four categories
Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.
Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.
Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.
Luna de Miel (“honeymoon”): For the honeymoon – span. Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
Experience culture
In Athens, on this 8-day tour of Greece, you will stroll through the Acropolis, the Olympieion and the Agora through the heyday of the ancient Greeks. You will discover their history in fast motion in Corinth. Even today, the ruins give you an idea of how people hurried through the streets, the smell of food from the tavernas and the babble of voices from almost the entire known world echoed through the streets.
You can still feel how people relaxed in the baths, sat together at the Peirene Fountain or paid homage to the god in the Temple of Apollo, through whose imposing pillars you stroll. At least as fascinating as the ancient world metropolis is the Corinth Canal, a canal with rock walls up to 80 metres high, through which the water meanders into the sea and which turns the Peloponnese into an island.
Experience nature
If you set off to Corinth in a hire car, pack your hiking boots – and not just for a visit to the ancient metropolis. The mighty Acrocorinth table mountain rises above the time-honoured walls, rewarding you for the climb with a breathtaking panorama over the archaeological site and out to sea.
Another site on this customised round trip also offers an overwhelming natural backdrop: Delphi. Not only the oracle is worth the trip here. The sanctuary is framed by mighty, terracotta-coloured rocks. If you look down, you will see the silver-green olive groves, which have been producing excellent oil in this rugged landscape for centuries.
Peloponnese culinary treasures
As in all regions of Greece, there are traditional and local delicacies that you should not miss out on when travelling through the Peloponnese. While fish and seafood dominate the menus in the coastal regions, traditional specialities such as kakavia, a kind of bouillabaisse in which the fish is served separately, or stifado, a stew usually made from beef or rabbit meat with an extremely tasty sauce to which cinnamon and cloves add the finishing touches, can be found particularly in the small tavernas inland.
Savour the Mani Syglino, pork smoked in sage, or the Mani salad, a delicious potato salad with oranges, capers and fresh herbs. Vegetables are not neglected in the ‘Garden of the Gods’ either, as fruit and vegetables are grown here in large quantities. Anthús, courgette flowers stuffed with rice and herbs, okra pods or beans in tomato sauce, artichokes and aubergines prepared in a variety of ways, fresh fruit not only delight the palates of vegetarians. Of course, the tasty olive oil from Kalamata should not be missed – it also tastes delicious on its own with white bread. Around a quarter of the wines from Greece come from the Peloponnese, so you can also indulge yourself in this respect.
