Northern Greece 2024 & 2025
“The north of Greece is always magical for me. The mountainous landscape with the Metéoras monasteries is particularly breathtaking. When the clouds are low around the rugged rocks, it almost looks as if the monasteries are floating on them.
I feel the same magic in Zagori when I walk over the old arched bridges through the imposing mountain landscape or stroll through the small villages, which often seem as if time has simply forgotten them. It is the tranquillity and majesty of these landscapes and the friendliness of their people that make the north of Greece so extremely appealing – a beauty that I am only too happy to share with you.
Of course, your Northern Greece round trip can also start right on your doorstep. When travelling by your own car, we also plan and organise the route and accommodation for your individual trip through the transit countries according to your wishes.”

Culture in northern Greece
Open a cultural treasure chest on our individual Northern Greece tours, where you will find ancient customs and traditions, architectural masterpieces and archaeological sites as well as modern theatre and music performances and contemporary art exhibitions.
A stroll through the city of Ioannina, located on Lake Pamvotida, reveals a colourful and multicultural history with its stately mansions, mosques, numerous churches, synagogues and the art of silversmithing that is still practised today. Thessaloniki also has a lot to tell about its history, as the Yedi Kule, the Byzantine “Acropolis”, the church Hagia Sophia and the city’s landmark – the White Tower – prove.
Be impressed by the folk architecture of the picturesque mountain villages in the centre of the country, where time seems to have stood still. The Metéora monasteries alone, which were built on the peaks of mighty rocks at an altitude of around 500 metres, are reason enough to embark on this journey. In six of them, you will still encounter nuns and monks who live here today.
Northern Greece – fascinating, unspoilt.
The Holy Mountain of Athos, crystal-clear seas and dreamy sandy beaches on the Chalkidiki peninsula are all terms that you will immediately associate with northern Greece. And rightly so, because all of these are typical of the region and well worth a visit. However, there is much more for nature lovers to discover on a tour of northern Greece.
Explore the Vikos-Aoos National Park with its famous Vikos Gorge or enjoy the panorama offered by a boat trip on the beautifully situated Lake Pamvotida in Ioannina. Hike between the rocks of the spectacularly situated Metéora monasteries or get closer to the gods on one of the many hiking trails on Mount Olympus.
Pelicans, flamingos and other bird species, as well as buffaloes, can be seen at the artificial Lake Kerkini. Enjoy the beautiful landscape on foot, by bike or by paddling through the lake’s water world… Deceleration is guaranteed.
Northern Greece – delicious variety
A great trip also includes getting to know the country’s typical dishes. Northern Greece has a lot to offer. Freshly caught fish is not only available on the coast, but also at Lake Pamvotida: if you enjoy a great view, it tastes even better. Do you love game and stews, accompanied by aromatic herbs and fresh wild mushrooms? Then our round trips through the interior of northern Greece are just the thing for you. Meatless but very filling and extremely delicious are the pies filled with wild herbs and cheese or vegetables.
The influence of Asia Minor can be felt and tasted in Macedonian cuisine, as shown by the revani, a semolina cake dipped in syrup. Imam bayildi, stuffed aubergines, and lachanopita, a puff pastry cake often filled with spinach, are in the same tradition. Do you think a good meal should be accompanied by a good wine? That’s no problem in northern Greece either, as grapes are not only made into good wines in Naoussa, but also in Chalkidiki, Drama and Amyntaio.
Special experiences in northern Greece
On our tours of northern Greece, you can of course also book guided tours of the most famous cities and culturally significant sites. However, we also want you to get to know and understand the country and its people better. That is why we have selected experiences that allow you to look behind the scenes.
On a guided hike in the Zagorochoria region, you will pass through small villages with traditional architecture, churches, stone arch bridges and excellent cuisine. Or visit one of the spectacularly situated Metéora monasteries and enjoy the unique panorama that the setting sun offers you, while your local guide tells you more about the monks and nuns who still live in the monasteries.
