Peloponnese 2025
“For me, the Peloponnese is the window into Greek antiquity in the midst of a magical landscape. There are two places that always give me goosebumps: the ancient sites of Olympia and the Oracle of Delphi, located not far from the Peloponnese peninsula. Olympia was not only home to one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, the 13-metre-high statue of Zeus by sculptor Pheidias. The Olympic idea and its games were also born here. You can almost still hear the cheers of the spectators in the stadium as they cheer on their athletes. The hustle and bustle of the hippodrome, the temples and the workshops come back to life in my mind’s eye as I walk around and suddenly the ancient peace games are very close. The Oracle of Delphi, which high up in the mountains has helped determine many a fateful decision for the Hellenes, seems almost mystical to me. When I’m here, I also see the famous ruins of Corinth, Mycenae or the Amphitheatre in Epidauros with different eyes and immerse myself in the myths of the ancient Greeks.
Of course, your trip to the Peloponnese can also start right on your doorstep. If you are travelling by your own car, we can also plan and organise the route and accommodation for your individual trip through the transit countries according to your wishes.”

Culture on the Peloponnese
Greece is considered to be the cradle of European culture. It is here – in the Dionysus Theatre in Athens – that tragedy was born, for example. The Amphitheatre of Epidauros also takes you back to the event culture of the ancient Greeks. Close your eyes for a moment on the steps of the theatre and imagine the cheering crowds that once sat here – and in an instant you will have turned back time by a good 2,000 years. The ruins of the competition centres and temples of ancient Olympia are also touching. This is where the idea of peaceful games across nations and dominions was born. And this is where it was lived and celebrated with sweat and passion.
But the Peloponnese also has another face beyond the famous sites. Here you can immerse yourself in a piece of Greek everyday culture in the charming, often somewhat sleepy and traditional villages. And you will discover some rather unknown witnesses of Greek antiquity off the beaten tourist track, which will enrich your 12-day tour of the Peloponnese.
The Peloponnese – fascinating, unspoilt
On your round trip of the Peloponnese, you will not only find yourself in the heart of ancient Greece, but you will also be greeted by breathtakingly beautiful scenery.
Enjoy romantic sunsets on sandy beaches with turquoise seas. Hike through a Mediterranean mountain landscape full of character, with majestic heights and imposing gorges, or stroll under the warm sun through vineyards, lemon and olive groves that give you a taste of the culinary delicacies that the Peloponnese has to offer.
Simply get out of your rental car wherever you happen to be enjoying the view and take in the beauty of the landscape.
Peloponnese culinary treasures
As in all regions of Greece, there are traditional and local delicacies that you should not miss out on when travelling through the Peloponnese. While fish and seafood dominate the menus in the coastal regions, traditional specialities such as kakavia, a kind of bouillabaisse in which the fish is served separately, or stifado, a stew usually made from beef or rabbit meat with an extremely tasty sauce to which cinnamon and cloves add the finishing touches, can be found particularly in the small tavernas inland.
Savour the Mani Syglino, pork smoked in sage, or the Mani salad, a delicious potato salad with oranges, capers and fresh herbs. Vegetables are not neglected in the ‘Garden of the Gods’ either, as fruit and vegetables are grown here in large quantities. Anthús, courgette flowers stuffed with rice and herbs, okra pods or beans in tomato sauce, artichokes and aubergines prepared in a variety of ways, fresh fruit not only delight the palates of vegetarians. Of course, the tasty olive oil from Kalamata should not be missed – it also tastes delicious on its own with white bread. Around a quarter of the wines from Greece come from the Peloponnese, so you can also indulge yourself in this respect.
Special experiences on the Peloponnese
Of course, you can explore the Peloponnese and its sites on your own. But you can also learn many secrets from the locals. For example, you can find out everything about Olympia, its buildings, its people and its significance for the Greeks on a guided tour and discover details that you might otherwise have missed. You can also get a particularly close look at the everyday culture of the Peloponnese through its culinary traditions.
Discover the diverse flavours that the grapes develop here in the Mediterranean climate at a winery during a tasting and taste the fine wines with typical, homemade snacks. This is how you can experience Greece with all your senses on this 12-day Peloponnese tour.
