Geotoura – Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels – Four categories
Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.
Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.
Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.
Luna de Miel (“honeymoon”): For the honeymoon – span. Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
Experience culture
You can almost still hear the spectators cheering on the athletes in the ancient stadium and hippodrome in Olympia. The Temple of Hera, a gymnasium, public baths and several villas complete the picture of the area where the games took place.
It is no less exciting to follow in the footsteps of a Bavarian in Nafplio. It was here that Otto I first set foot on Greek soil in 1833 and began his reign – and it was here that it ended. What remains to this day are the town’s pretty historic streets and alleyways, which will take you back to these and even earlier times.
If you are visiting Athens for the first time, the Acropolis with its world-famous temples and sanctuaries is simply a must. A stone’s throw from there is the Olympieion, the oldest temple in Greece. If you want to admire the cosmopolitan city of Athens as a panorama with all its treasures, you should climb the city’s Lycabettus Hill. Even from up here you can feel the grandeur of the ancient ruins, which still stand out from the sea of houses.
Experience nature
Beyond the city limits of Ancona begins a piece of picture-book Italy that is guaranteed to tempt you to simply pull over and enjoy the view. The gentle hills with meadows, pastures and scattered trees rival the charm of the ancient olive groves in Kalamata, Greece.
In some places, it even has an almost tropical flair, with palm trees providing shade with their huge fronds. Just a little further on, the strong turquoise blue sea murmurs over a fine, almost snow-white sandy beach and invites you to stay a little longer on your individual round trip.
Northern Greece – delicious variety
A great trip also includes getting to know the country’s typical dishes. Northern Greece has a lot to offer. Freshly caught fish is not only available on the coast, but also at Lake Pamvotida: if you enjoy a great view, it tastes even better. Do you love game and stews, accompanied by aromatic herbs and fresh wild mushrooms? Then our round trips through the interior of northern Greece are just the thing for you. Meatless but very filling and extremely delicious are the pies filled with wild herbs and cheese or vegetables.
The influence of Asia Minor can be felt and tasted in Macedonian cuisine, as shown by the revani, a semolina cake dipped in syrup. Imam bayildi, stuffed aubergines, and lachanopita, a puff pastry cake often filled with spinach, are in the same tradition. Do you think a good meal should be accompanied by a good wine? That’s no problem in northern Greece either, as grapes are not only made into good wines in Naoussa, but also in Chalkidiki, Drama and Amyntaio.
