Geotoura - Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We categorise our accommodation in the British Isles into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels - Four categories
Encantador (‘Charming’): Privately run bed & breakfast guesthouses with a small number of cosy rooms and a lovingly prepared breakfast.
Especial (‘Special’): Enjoy stylish interiors and comfort in the mostly family-run boutique hotels with historic charm. Stay in the city centre or in beautiful natural surroundings.
Extraordinario (‘Extraordinary’): Centuries-old buildings, such as historic manor houses or castles, sometimes also modern design hotels with special architecture. Usually equipped with a restaurant, bar or spa area.
Luna de Miel (‘honeymoon’): For your honeymoon – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
Experience culture
Dublin is not just a haven of quaint pubs and modern art. It is also an architectural treasure trove. Be impressed by the imposing walls of Dublin Castle and St Patrick’s Cathedral or feel almost like you’re at Hogwarts at Trinity College. Goosebumps will run down your spine in Kilmainham Gaol as you walk through the building made of solid stone and cold steel. But Dublin is also a place of bizarre stories and fascinating encounters – for example with “Tom and Jerry” in Christ Church, the Book of Kells in Trinity College Library and with literary greats such as Abraham Stoker, George Bernhard Shaw and William Yeats.
You will also come across touching stories during your 15-day tour in the green hills of Kerry. Immerse yourself in darker times with a visit to the Slea Head Famine Cottages. Better times can be seen at Muckross Traditional Farms, where the farm life of yesteryear still lives and breathes today. The stately splendour of the 19th century can be found right next door in the Victorian Muckross House and its magnificent gardens.
The picturesque landscape of the Boyne Valley takes you far back in history. Not only the majestic Newgrange bears witness to the life and knowledge of the early settlers. The burial sites of Knowth and Dowth and Lough Crew Cairns also provide an impressive insight into Ireland’s early history.
Experience nature
Ireland is the epitome of picturesque natural landscapes. Take off your shoes and dream yourself into another world while watching a colourful sunset on the beach of Galway Bay – a world whose beauty is sung about in many an Irish folk song.
In north-west Mayo, your 15-day tour through Ireland takes you to the rugged beauty of the mountains and moors in Wild Nephin National Park. Stop for a moment in this moving landscape, close your eyes and breathe in the peace that lies over this unspoilt landscape.
You will feel a tingling sensation in your stomach when you stand on the edge of the famous Cliffs of Moher, which are more than 300 million years old. It’s almost as if you’ve shrunk in the face of the 200 metre high cliffs, at the foot of which the force of the ocean roars. So it’s no wonder that you’ll meet Harry Potter out here again, as the key scene of one of the films was shot in this very spot.
Ireland culinary treasures
Ireland’s cuisine is often seen in the tradition of poor people’s food. During your visit to Ireland, you will discover that this down-to-earth tradition can be very tasty and not at all poor. In addition to the famous Irish stew, it is mainly fish and seafood that has been tantalising the palate in recent times. Smoked wild salmon, oysters and lobster will win over even gourmets. Meat lovers can look forward to fine lamb and tender Angus beef. “Back to the roots, on the other hand, with soda bread, porridge, boxty, coddle and black pudding.
The authentic Ireland
Do you want to discover the real, unadulterated Ireland with all your senses at once? Then head to the English Market in Cork, which even the Queen has visited. The historic market hall from the 19th century is a feast for the eyes. To this day, it is still home to a colourful stall that fills the hall with bustling life, bright colours and enticing aromas. So browse through the bakers, butchers and greengrocers and savour the delicious street food.
Beer is an art for the Irish. This applies not only to the famous Guinness. In Kilkenny, let yourself be whisked away into the world of Smithwick beers. Savour the unmistakable aroma and learn more about the ingredients and the art of brewing. Of course, you will also get to taste a pint of the handcrafted beer that the brewers proudly present to you.
