Geotoura - Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We categorise our accommodation in the British Isles into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels - Four categories
Encantador (‘Charming’): Privately run bed & breakfast guesthouses with a small number of cosy rooms and a lovingly prepared breakfast.
Especial (‘Special’): Enjoy stylish interiors and comfort in the mostly family-run boutique hotels with historic charm. Stay in the city centre or in beautiful natural surroundings.
Extraordinario (‘Extraordinary’): Centuries-old buildings, such as historic manor houses or castles, sometimes also modern design hotels with special architecture. Usually equipped with a restaurant, bar or spa area.
Luna de Miel (‘honeymoon’): For your honeymoon – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
Experience culture
Travel back in time several thousand years at Brú na Bóinne. Here in the Boyne Valley, the imposing buildings of Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth take you far back into the past. At the same time, you will also land in the legendary world of the early settlers, who saw a fairy mound in many an elevation, where the little folk are said to live to this day, if you ask the locals.
The picturesque landscape of West Cork is home to some marvellous manor houses. Perhaps one of the most beautiful and interesting is Bantry House, which dates back to the 18th century. The 19th century still lives on within its walls in an exquisite collection of furniture and art. You will also find art in the well-tended garden. The refined grounds conceal works of art and duplicates of famous pieces from all over the world.
Before you set off into the countryside on your 15-day round trip, you should discover the capital’s exciting museum landscape in Dublin. Discover Ireland and its history in sublime buildings at the National Museum of Ireland. Art fans can take a very special journey through time at the National Museum of Decorative Arts and History. Do you love little anecdotes and insights into the everyday life of yesterday and today? Then head to the Little Museum of Dublin, which will take you on a journey through the small, but fascinating stories of the 20th century.
Experience nature
The Powerscourt Estate is located in the middle of the Wicklow Mountains between vast moors, deep gorges and majestic mountains. Stroll around the manor house through a fantastic garden and hear the Powerscourt Waterfall from afar as it rushes over a steep face a good 100 metres into the depths. On your way there, you will be accompanied by the fantastic colours and scents of the roses and perennials that give the Powerscout Gardens their splendour.
In contrast, nature is rugged out at the end of Downpatrick Head, where the mighty rock Dún Briste rises from the sea just off the coast. Legend has it that St Patrick himself separated the mighty rock from the mainland. However, this rock is by no means the only view that will fascinate you out here in the salty ocean breeze.
If you walk a little further at the end of the world, you will reach Slea Head, the lonely, wild and fantastic end of the Dingle Peninsula. Several megalithic tombs and standing stones that you come across on your way are evidence that people were drawn out here into the solitude early on. Otherwise, you will often only be accompanied by the seabirds swaying in the air above you.
Ireland culinary treasures
Ireland’s cuisine is often seen in the tradition of poor people’s food. During your visit to Ireland, you will discover that this down-to-earth tradition can be very tasty and not at all poor. In addition to the famous Irish stew, it is mainly fish and seafood that has been tantalising the palate in recent times. Smoked wild salmon, oysters and lobster will win over even gourmets. Meat lovers can look forward to fine lamb and tender Angus beef. “Back to the roots, on the other hand, with soda bread, porridge, boxty, coddle and black pudding.
The authentic Ireland
Johnny Fox’s Traditional Irish Pub is located in the middle of the wonderful backdrop of the Wicklow Mountains in tranquil Glencullen. It is not only Ireland’s highest pub, but also a time capsule where you can take a trip back to traditional, original Ireland. After all, the pub has been around since 1798, so you can not only enjoy honest Irish cuisine with old recipes, but also traditional dancing to cheerful music.
Would you like to discover even more tradition? Then why not stop by the Boyne Valley Craftworkers when you visit the Boyne Valley. They will be happy to let you look over their shoulders as they make beautiful handicrafts from metal, stone, wood and other materials in the traditional way.
