Geotoura - Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We categorise our accommodation in the British Isles into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels - Four categories
Encantador (‘Charming’): Privately run bed & breakfast guesthouses with a small number of cosy rooms and a lovingly prepared breakfast.
Especial (‘Special’): Enjoy stylish interiors and comfort in the mostly family-run boutique hotels with historic charm. Stay in the city centre or in beautiful natural surroundings.
Extraordinario (‘Extraordinary’): Centuries-old buildings, such as historic manor houses or castles, sometimes also modern design hotels with special architecture. Usually equipped with a restaurant, bar or spa area.
Luna de Miel (‘honeymoon’): For your honeymoon – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
Experience culture
While many visitors look forward to the beauty of Dublin, the enchanting castles around the capital are sometimes almost forgotten. And yet there are exciting stories to discover here too. Get to know Malahide Castle, a real Irish fairytale castle, whose most impressive room is probably the Oak Room with its 500-year-old oak panelling. And while you’re there, take a stroll through the castle’s botanical gardens and fall in love with its intricate Victorian-style greenhouse.
Uncover secrets in a picturesque landscape in the Glendalough Valley. Wherever you turn, you will encounter St Kevin. The ruins of the village on Lower Lake date back to the time when he founded what would later become Ireland’s most famous monastic town. Even today, the walls of Reefert Church look out over the lake and the historic gravestones open a window into the past. The 33 metre high round tower, which once offered the monks protection in the event of attacks and still looks out over the valley today, is best visible from afar.
Dublin is primarily known for its spectacular historic buildings. Its numerous parks also tell many an exciting story. Picnic in the picturesque Iveagh Gardens, for example, or stroll past the backdrop of Dublin Castle through the Dubh Linn Gardens. It used to be dark where St Stephen’s Green is today. It was here that convicts were executed until the 18th century.
Experience nature
You will realise why Galway Bay is sung about in so many Irish songs when you walk along its beach at sunset and see the colours of the setting sun reflected in the sea.
The light is also part of the magic you experience in Connemara National Park. Here, on your 9-day round trip, you will immerse yourself in a wild landscape of moors and heath, dark lakes and majestic cliffs. Perhaps the most beautiful panorama in the park can be enjoyed from Diamond Hill.
Goosebumps await you when you reach the top of the Cliffs of Moher at Doolin. Here, you will be surrounded by the noisy flock of countless seabirds, a salty breeze and the feeling of suddenly being very small in the face of the gigantic cliffs. Would you like to savour this spectacular landscape to the full? Then follow the Cliffs Coastal Walk.
Ireland culinary treasures
Ireland’s cuisine is often seen in the tradition of poor people’s food. During your visit to Ireland, you will discover that this down-to-earth tradition can be very tasty and not at all poor. In addition to the famous Irish stew, it is mainly fish and seafood that has been tantalising the palate in recent times. Smoked wild salmon, oysters and lobster will win over even gourmets. Meat lovers can look forward to fine lamb and tender Angus beef. “Back to the roots, on the other hand, with soda bread, porridge, boxty, coddle and black pudding.
The authentic Ireland
With the hustle and bustle of Limerick’s Milk Market, you will find yourself in the centre of a very personal and authentic piece of Ireland. Where once only milk was traded, farmers now sell all their produce. It smells of delicious street food and you can browse between the stalls for regional arts and crafts and antiques.
You can discover the secret of Irish whiskey at Ireland’s oldest distillery. The Old Kilbeggan Distillery has been distilling many a fine drop since 1757. The professionals will tell you how it was made in the past and how it is made today and will even give you a taste.
