A multifaceted north

10 days Ireland and Northern Ireland tour

Dublin - Belfast - Derry - Sligo - Dublin

Your journey at a glance

Green hills, rugged coastlines, exciting cities, traditional towns and ancient sites... The north of the island of Ireland will fascinate you with its landscape, history and friendly people in equal measure. For example, look over the shoulders of artisans in Derry's Craft Village or travel back in time at Carrowkeel Megalithic Cemetery near Sligo. There is sometimes a heaviness about Ireland's north. The cheerful pubs show one thing above all: despite everything, the Irish are bon vivants for whom the glass is always half full. Let this positive spirit infect you on this 10-day tour of Ireland and Northern Ireland!

Geotoura - Hotel concept

When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.

We categorise our accommodation in the British Isles into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.

Boutique Hotels - Four categories

Encantador (‘Charming’): Privately run bed & breakfast guesthouses with a small number of cosy rooms and a lovingly prepared breakfast.

Especial (‘Special’): Enjoy stylish interiors and comfort in the mostly family-run boutique hotels with historic charm. Stay in the city centre or in beautiful natural surroundings.

Extraordinario (‘Extraordinary’): Centuries-old buildings, such as historic manor houses or castles, sometimes also modern design hotels with special architecture. Usually equipped with a restaurant, bar or spa area.

Luna de Miel (‘honeymoon’): For your honeymoon – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …

Character of this travel idea

For many people, the north of the island of Ireland evokes rather gloomy associations. Yet there is much to discover here: magnificent architecture, wonderful landscapes and a light and cheerful spirit despite everything. That’s why this 10-day round trip through Ireland and Northern Ireland shows you the picturesque and exuberant Ireland, which shines with many facets.

Experience culture

In Dublin, you’ll feel a little like you’ve turned off to Hogwarts in the library of Trinity College. After a visit to the almost curious composition of Dublin Castle, you will of course stop off at the mother of all Irish beers, the Guinness Storehouse.

If you leave Dublin in a hire car, you will soon land in its equally exciting counterpart. In the Northern Irish capital, you will fall in love with the picturesque Belfast Castle, immerse yourself in the time of the Troubles with the city’s murals and end up at the ultra-modern façade of the Titanic Experience, a tragic chapter of the city.

After your city stroll on this 10-day tour of Ireland and Northern Ireland, both cities invite you to enjoy live music, local specialities and a hearty Guinness or craft beer in one of their quaint pubs.

Experience nature

Like the hull of a mighty ship from another world, the imposing Ben Bulben table mountain towers over the wide, in some places almost treeless landscape near Sligo.

Even from a distance you will get an idea of why the 527 metre high Table Mountain is said to have been the scene of the mythical battle between Diarmuid and the boar of Ben Gulban and why the author William Buttler Yeats set such a flaming monument to it in “Under Ben Bulben”.

The path to the plateau leads you through lush, colourful rhododendrons. Once at the top, the mountain rewards you with a breathtaking panorama of Sligo and out into the vastness of the Atlantic.

Ireland culinary treasures

Ireland’s cuisine is often seen in the tradition of poor people’s food. During your visit to Ireland, you will discover that this down-to-earth tradition can be very tasty and not at all poor. In addition to the famous Irish stew, it is mainly fish and seafood that has been tantalising the palate in recent times. Smoked wild salmon, oysters and lobster will win over even gourmets. Meat lovers can look forward to fine lamb and tender Angus beef. “Back to the roots, on the other hand, with soda bread, porridge, boxty, coddle and black pudding.

The authentic Ireland

Not far from the impressive basalt pillars of the Giant’s Causeway is the oldest whisky distillery in the world. The Old Bushmills Distillery has been distilling fine spirits since 1608. Find out what secrets Ireland’s oldest whisky tradition harbours on this individual 10-day round trip. We can only reveal this much: the clear, pure water of the River Bush alone is not enough …

My wife and I celebrated our golden wedding anniversary during our trip to Ireland. Geotoura had organised for a bottle of prosecco, strawberries, cake and wine to be waiting for us in our hotel room. We were very pleased with this.

Ireland is worth a visit. You can see a stunning landscape and visit some excellently designed gardens, such as those at Lismore Castle. The people are friendly and helpful, and they are happy to make contact. It is a ‘young’ country. The pubs and the local culture alone are worth a visit. Dublin is a vibrant and very lively city that has a lot to offer: culture of all kinds, and above all many museums.
