Geotoura - Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We categorise our accommodation in the British Isles into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels - Four categories
Encantador (‘Charming’): Privately run bed & breakfast guesthouses with a small number of cosy rooms and a lovingly prepared breakfast.
Especial (‘Special’): Enjoy stylish interiors and comfort in the mostly family-run boutique hotels with historic charm. Stay in the city centre or in beautiful natural surroundings.
Extraordinario (‘Extraordinary’): Centuries-old buildings, such as historic manor houses or castles, sometimes also modern design hotels with special architecture. Usually equipped with a restaurant, bar or spa area.
Luna de Miel (‘honeymoon’): For your honeymoon – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
Experience culture
Of course, you can’t miss a visit to Trinity College, City Hall and the wonderful Gregorian chapel in the old town. However, Temple Bar, the cultural heart of the city, will take you right into the heart of the Irish lifestyle. Here, narrow, cobbled streets run along the fronts of colourful and lovingly designed houses.
They are home to pubs, cafés, small shops and very individual galleries. The cheerful tunes of street musicians echo through the streets. You will find the exact opposite of this lively hustle and bustle when you get out of your hire car in Glencolumbkille. The valley of the same name, in which the tiny village is located, is not called “the back of beyond” by the Irish for nothing. Here, the clocks go slower and the long history of Ireland and its traditions come a good deal closer.
Somewhere between hustle and bustle and solitude, you’ll find yourself in picturesque towns like Cork. Great galleries, gloomy dungeons and old places of worship such as St Fin Barre’s Cathedral make you want to discover the artists and history behind them on this 18-day tour of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Experience nature
The Irish island is famous for its lonely, vast natural landscapes, which are still very close to the elemental forces of Mother Nature. You will feel even closer to the power of the sea than anywhere else when you look down more than 200 metres from the edge of the Cliffs of Moher and watch the waves breaking with force against the vertical rock face.
An almost sacred silence envelops you after the ascent to Croagh Patrick, the holy mountain of the Irish, which rests in the landscape like a sleeping giant. In County Mayo, you can visit what is probably the oldest cultural landscape on the island on this individual 18-day tour of Ireland and Northern Ireland in a hire car: the Céide Fields.
At around 5,000 to 6,000 years old, they are the oldest surviving – and cultivated – fields in the world. Here you can immerse yourself in a land that was created long before the pyramids and is now home to one of Ireland’s most impressive trees, a 4,000-year-old oak.
Ireland culinary treasures
Ireland’s cuisine is often seen in the tradition of poor people’s food. During your visit to Ireland, you will discover that this down-to-earth tradition can be very tasty and not at all poor. In addition to the famous Irish stew, it is mainly fish and seafood that has been tantalising the palate in recent times. Smoked wild salmon, oysters and lobster will win over even gourmets. Meat lovers can look forward to fine lamb and tender Angus beef. “Back to the roots, on the other hand, with soda bread, porridge, boxty, coddle and black pudding.
