Israel 2024 & 2025
“For me, Israel is a fascinating treasure trove with one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world: Jericho. I arrive there at the earliest point in the country’s long history and it is somehow moving to stand in a place that was already inhabited 10,000 years ago.
In Israel, the melting pot of cultures and religions is evident in every corner. I love strolling through the colourful markets and immersing myself with all my senses in this diversity, which is reflected in the colours and, above all, in the cuisine. Just like the countless historical sites and landscapes. I can visit the graves of the archfathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, experience the sacred atmosphere at the Wailing Wall and climb up to the famous Temple Mount. Landscapes, by the way, have their charm even without a biblical background. My personal favourites: the gigantic “stone mushrooms” of Timna and the almost curious stone field in the Zin desert. It is in the solitude of these landscapes that I really come to appreciate the flair of Israel between the tranquillity and majesty of its natural scenery and the hustle and bustle of its cities.”

Cultural Israel
Israel is a cultural and religious treasure trove, as it is home to some of the most important shrines of several religions. Probably the most famous can be found in Jerusalem. Here you can watch the devout Jews praying at the Wailing Wall and marvel at the golden dome of the Dome of the Rock from afar. On the Via Dolorosa, you follow the last path of Christ and finally arrive at one of the holiest sites of Christianity, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
The ruins of the village of Cafarnaum on the Sea of Galilee are less well known, but no less significant. Here you will encounter the living and miracle-working Jesus. The feeding of the 5,000 and the healing of Peter’s mother-in-law are just some of the events that the Bible locates in Capernaum.
In Qumran, you will get to know the biblical texts in a different way on this 12-day tour of Israel. Around 900 scrolls were found in the local caves, the Dead Sea Scrolls. In addition to numerous apocrypha, they also contained some essential parts of the Old Testament. Visiting the place where they were written and preserved can certainly be a goosebump-inducing experience.Experience nature in Israel
Even though it is considered the land of the desert, you can get to know very different landscapes on your 12-day tour of Israel. For example, literally dive into the colourful underwater world of the Red Sea off Eilat. The desert begins just a stone’s throw away – here with the fascinating stone formations of Timna.
The Negev Desert is what characterises the face of Israel. But what sounds like a wasteland has wonderful experiences in store for you. Discover the Makhtesh Ramon, one of the largest craters of its kind in a landscape that has remained virtually unchanged for around 1.8 million years. On your round trip in a hire car, make a stop at the stone fields of the Zin Desert or discover the rare tortoises, beautiful oryx antelopes and elegant leopards that continue to thrive in this rather hostile environment.
The water of the Dead Sea does not allow higher life to flourish due to its salt content. Instead, it creates a unique landscape that may have inspired the episode of Sodom and Gomorrah. Salt pillars, hills and fields line the Dead Sea, on which you could even read a book while rocking if you wanted to.
Israel's culinary treasures
Typical Israeli cuisine is usually kosher – but it can be extremely diverse due to its many roots. Here, Mediterranean cuisine mixes with Arabic, Syrian and many other influences. That is why there is no such thing as the Israeli cuisine. From hearty meat dishes and the ubiquitous hummus to light salads, the menu in Israeli restaurants can include almost anything – except pork. A good opportunity to sample different flavours and ingredients are mezze, the starters that are usually served in many small bowls.
If the hearty, meat-heavy oriental influence does not predominate, Israeli cuisine is very healthy, as it relies heavily on vegetables, pulses and fresh fruit. Dishes such as falafel, sabich or baba ganoush are typical. Meat dishes are rarer, but still varied. You can find shawarma, street food made from grilled meat, almost everywhere. What most dishes have in common is the often very aromatic seasoning with everything the oriental spice rack has to offer. So you can look forward to varied and flavourful dishes in Israel.
