Geotoura – Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels – Four categories
Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.
Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.
Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.
Luna de Miel (“honeymoon”): For the honeymoon – span. Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
Israel's rich culture
In Jerusalem you land right in the beating heart of the Holy Land. Nowhere are the three world religions closer together than here. Feel the sublime aura of the Wailing Wall. See the golden dome of the Dome of the Rock shining in the sun from afar or follow in Jesus’ footsteps along the Via Dolorosa to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which houses the Holy Sepulchre. But the city has even more to offer. From the city wall, you can not only observe the hustle and bustle below you. It shows you the old city of Jerusalem from a new, exciting perspective and brings you right into the centre of modern everyday life between ancient walls.
Life has now disappeared from Caesarea Maritima. And yet the spirit of the city founded by Herod still wafts through it. It still gives an idea of its former splendour with theatres, hippodrome, luxurious bathhouses and magnificent palaces from Roman times. On your 12-day round trip, you will take a trip back to antiquity and get to know an Israel that saw many rulers, including Mamelukes, Byzantines and Crusaders.
Likewise, only ruins remain of a small village that is still of great importance today: Cafarnaum. This is where Jesus lived and worked by the Sea of Galilee. Here he healed, cast out devils and spoke the famous words: “I am the bread of life …” You will also meet one of Jesus’ most important disciples here: Peter. Today, a modern church rises above the Fisherman’s House and marks the spot where the humble hut once stood, where Jesus went in and out and where early Christians later came together.
Experience nature in Israel
Discover a green and colourful beauty in the middle of Haifa: the Bahai Gardens. They are centred around the shrine of the religion’s founder and catch the eye from afar with their brightly coloured flowers and extremely accurate geometric patterns. In other places, the gardens look almost like a small grove, another world in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city.
On your 12-day tour through Israel, Haifa is also the springboard to one of the country’s most enchanting natural beauties, at the foot of the Carmel Mountains. From here, it is not far to the wonders of the Har Carmel National Park. Lush and green by Israeli standards, it is home to some of today’s rare animals. You can visit them with your hire car in the Hay Bar Reserve within the park. Here you will encounter Mesopotamian fallow deer, Cretan ibex and majestic vultures. Numerous hiking trails lead you into the heart of wild nature, past ancient oaks, clear pools and interesting rock formations.
Israel: A culinary firework
Typical Israeli cuisine is usually kosher – but it can be extremely diverse due to its many roots. Here, Mediterranean cuisine mixes with Arabic, Syrian and many other influences. That is why there is no such thing as the Israeli cuisine. From hearty meat dishes and the ubiquitous hummus to light salads, the menu in Israeli restaurants can include almost anything – except pork. A good opportunity to sample different flavours and ingredients are mezze, the starters that are usually served in many small bowls.
If the hearty, meat-heavy oriental influence does not predominate, Israeli cuisine is very healthy, as it relies heavily on vegetables, pulses and fresh fruit. Dishes such as falafel, sabich or baba ganoush are typical. Meat dishes are rarer, but still varied. You can find shawarma, street food made from grilled meat, almost everywhere. What most dishes have in common is the often very aromatic seasoning with everything the oriental spice rack has to offer. So you can look forward to varied and flavourful dishes in Israel.
The authentic Israel
The way to a man’s heart is not only through his stomach, but also through his culture. And hardly any other cuisine reflects the country’s history as multifaceted and clearly as Israeli cuisine. Of course, you can savour the aromatic cuisine in a good restaurant. But you can also pick up a pot and pan yourself and delve deeper into the secrets of Israeli cuisine on a cooking course. Learn more about the history of the dishes prepared, about the ingredients and their origins – and of course about kosher eating rules.
