Geotoura – Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels – Four categories
Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.
Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.
Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.
Luna de Miel (“honeymoon”): For the honeymoon – span. Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
Israel's living history
On the second stop of this 15-day round trip through Israel, you will encounter another religion in Haifa alongside major world religions. The Baha’i Gardens are world-famous for their beauty and can be seen from the German Colony. At their centre is the Baha’i shrine, the Shrine of the Bab. However, the eye-catching gardens are not the only highlight of Haifa. Art lovers and museum-goers in particular will find a real paradise in the city. From modern art, urban history and maritime life to science and technology, you can immerse yourself in many topics in Haifa.
At the Sea of Galilee, you will be walking on biblical ground, especially in the small ruined village of Cafarnaum. Here you follow in the footsteps of Jesus and stand on the site where the feeding of the 5,000 is said to have taken place. You can reach nearby Safed from the lake in no time at all in your hire car. There you can immerse yourself in Jewish culture or feel the creative spirit of the artists’ colony of Safed. In addition to small, sometimes very personal studios, there are also some of the best art galleries in the country.
The undisputed highlight of the religious sites on this individual trip is Jerusalem. The city is home to several important sites of the three major world religions. For example, pause at the Wailing Wall or follow the last path of Christ on the Via Dolorosa – which takes you to the Hill of Golgotha and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, among other places. Climb up to the Temple Mount and visit the Wailing Wall, the Dome of the Rock and the magnificent Al-Aqsa Mosque. Just outside the city gates, your route then takes you up the Mount of Olives, where you will pass many Jewish tombs as well as the Chapel of the Ascension and the Grave of Lazarus.
Experience unique natural beauty
Would you associate the desert country with colourful coral worlds? Perhaps not before this 15-day round trip through Israel – but definitely after your visit to Eilat. The most beautiful side of the Red Sea awaits you here – for diving, snorkelling or dry feet in the underwater observatory. You can even get up close to wild dolphins here at Dolphin Reef Beach.
The bizarre rock formations of Timna are a spectacular contrast to the colourful marine life. Here, gigantic mushrooms of stone grow out of the ground, massive rocks such as the Columns of Solomon stretch impressively into the sky and imposing arches stretch across the landscape, which have been sanded out of the stone by the wind. Timna is a landscape of colours. From white to pink and yellow to light brown tones, nature has poured out its entire colour palette here and turned the desert into a fascinating work of art.
The landscape is almost bizarre where the desert meets the Dead Sea. The salt conjures up countless, sometimes almost extraterrestrial-looking phenomena in the landscape between the turquoise-coloured, mineral-rich water and the yellow table mountains that frame the scene. A walk along the beach quickly explains why many researchers place the origins of the events of Sodom and Gomorrah here of all places. Today, the salt of the sea is even being turned into art: Israeli artist Sigalit Landau sinks items of clothing into the water, among other things, which emerge as salt sculptures.
Israel: A culinary firework
Typical Israeli cuisine is usually kosher – but it can be extremely diverse due to its many roots. Here, Mediterranean cuisine mixes with Arabic, Syrian and many other influences. That is why there is no such thing as the Israeli cuisine. From hearty meat dishes and the ubiquitous hummus to light salads, the menu in Israeli restaurants can include almost anything – except pork. A good opportunity to sample different flavours and ingredients are mezze, the starters that are usually served in many small bowls.
If the hearty, meat-heavy oriental influence does not predominate, Israeli cuisine is very healthy, as it relies heavily on vegetables, pulses and fresh fruit. Dishes such as falafel, sabich or baba ganoush are typical. Meat dishes are rarer, but still varied. You can find shawarma, street food made from grilled meat, almost everywhere. What most dishes have in common is the often very aromatic seasoning with everything the oriental spice rack has to offer. So you can look forward to varied and flavourful dishes in Israel.
The authentic Israel
Israel’s everyday culture is characterised by the lively hustle and bustle of a cultural melting pot. You can feel this particularly well when you stroll through one of the many markets. The Flea Market “Shuk Hapishpeshim” or the Yehuda Market in Tel Aviv-Jaffa are wonderful opportunities for this. With its delicious flavours, the latter will also introduce you to the diverse cuisine of the Israelis. If you want to experience the country up close through its cuisine on this 15-day round trip through Israel, then why not go to a professional – and cook for yourself under supervision. As you work in the kitchen, you will learn a lot of background information about food regulations, traditions and the history of the ingredients you are working with.
