Geotoura – Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels – Four categories
Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.
Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.
Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.
Luna de Miel (“honeymoon”): For the honeymoon – span. Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
Pure culture
Jerusalem is rich in holy sites for several religions. This makes it a bone of contention – but also a particularly moving experience. Take in the bustling yet almost meditative hustle and bustle at the Wailing Wall. Visit the Temple Mount with the Dome of the Rock and the Al-Aqsa Mosque or walk along the Via Dolorosa in the footsteps of Jesus all the way to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. You will be surrounded by the sacred texts of Christianity, Judaism and Islam. You can experience a more secular tour during your 8-day round trip through Israel on the City Wall of Jerusalem. From up here, you can look down on the ancient heart of the city, which still beats vibrantly today.
In Tel Aviv-Jaffa you will find yourself between modern Tel Aviv and historic Jaffa, which already appears in the story of Jonah and the whale. Just a stone’s throw away from Jaffa is the White City, whose around 4,000 Bauhaus buildings Tel Aviv owes to the darkest chapter of modern history, the flight of the Jews from the Holocaust. With the White City, the architects among them created a witness to history that still lives and breathes today. Art of a different kind awaits you in another neighbourhood of Tel Aviv, in Florentin. The inspiring street art alone is worth a visit. Here you can discover many facets of art from cartoons to modern art in studios and museums.
Israel's nature up close
Israel is just a desert? Not at all! On this 9-day round trip through Israel, you will discover fascinating landscapes at the Dead Sea and at the gates of the big cities. Be enchanted by the fine salt crystals at the Dead Sea, which create almost extraterrestrial-looking, bizarre structures on the shore.
Or immerse yourself in a vibrant natural paradise just a stone’s throw away from the salty beaches. You can reach the breathtaking landscape of En Gedi in a hire car in no time and immerse yourself in its oases and beautiful canyons. Discover a haven of life with tropical and subtropical flora and some rare animals in the middle of one of the most hostile places on earth at the Shulamit waterfall.
Israel: A culinary firework
Typical Israeli cuisine is usually kosher – but it can be extremely diverse due to its many roots. Here, Mediterranean cuisine mixes with Arabic, Syrian and many other influences. That is why there is no such thing as the Israeli cuisine. From hearty meat dishes and the ubiquitous hummus to light salads, the menu in Israeli restaurants can include almost anything – except pork. A good opportunity to sample different flavours and ingredients are mezze, the starters that are usually served in many small bowls.
If the hearty, meat-heavy oriental influence does not predominate, Israeli cuisine is very healthy, as it relies heavily on vegetables, pulses and fresh fruit. Dishes such as falafel, sabich or baba ganoush are typical. Meat dishes are rarer, but still varied. You can find shawarma, street food made from grilled meat, almost everywhere. What most dishes have in common is the often very aromatic seasoning with everything the oriental spice rack has to offer. So you can look forward to varied and flavourful dishes in Israel.
The authentic Israel
Israel’s cuisine is a reflection of its long and eventful history. While cooking on this 9-day round trip through Israel, you will take a culinary stroll through several millennia and different cultures. So what better way to immerse yourself in the everyday culture of the Israelis than with a short cookery course? Discover the flavours between Orient and Occident and learn more about the history of the ingredients while cooking, before tasting the unmistakable taste of Israel at the end.
