Geotoura – Hotel concept

When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.

We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.

Boutique Hotels – Four categories

Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.

Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.

Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.

Luna de Miel (“honeymoon”): For the honeymoon – span. Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …

Character of this travel idea

On this 14-day round trip through Puglia, you will get to know the different facets of the region in the south of Italy. Colourful harbour villages and baroque towns form the purest postcard motifs, while 800 kilometres of coastline await you with beaches that are second to none. Let yourself be enchanted with all your senses by Puglia’s attitude to life, which you will also discover in culinary terms on your round trip.

Experience culture

Even though the rich and powerful have characterised the cityscapes of Puglia, it is the houses of the common people that will fascinate you. A stroll through the picturesque town of Alberobello with its snow-white trulli will present you with a unique picture. The cave town of Sassi di Matera, which was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 1993, is no less surreal. Still used as homes or hotels, visitors can spend the night in the cave houses themselves or imagine the everyday life of the former inhabitants in the museums.

Experience nature

The coast of Puglia stretches for hundreds of kilometres and offers some of the most beautiful beaches in the country. White sandy beaches and turquoise-coloured water invite you to sunbathe and swim, framed by bizarre rock formations that will capture your imagination.

Olive groves dominate the landscape in the hinterland. Take time to enjoy these sights on your tour of Puglia and perhaps even take a look behind the doors of a traditional olive farm.

Narrow paths lead you through the barren, sun-kissed landscapes of the national parks. Park your hire car on this 14-day tour of Apulia and explore the unspoilt nature with rare plant species on foot.

Apulia - Mediterranean delight

Diversity can also be found in the regional cuisine of Apulia. Freshly caught fish and seafood can of course be found on almost all menus, while meat dishes dominate inland. However, there are also numerous dishes with fresh vegetables such as tomatoes, fennel, broccoli or cime di rapa, the slightly bitter-tasting stem cabbage.

In the narrow streets of Bari, you can look over the shoulders of the women working here on your tour of Puglia and see how orecchiette, the little ear-shaped pasta, is made in front of their own front door. What baguettes are to the French, taralli are to the Pugliese – baked dough curls that are served almost everywhere for dinner.

As in the rest of Italy, cheese is also made in Apulia. Whether it’s canestrato, cacioricotta, straciatella, which is similar to mozzarella, or burrata… Leave it up to your palate to decide and also which wine it likes best with it.

The authentic Apulia

The best way to get to know Apulia is by tasting local produce. In small, mostly family-run restaurants, you can immerse yourself in the rich cuisine of the region.

Or simply lend a hand yourself. Under expert guidance, you can conjure up original Apulian pasta and then enjoy it with a typical regional 3-course meal. Naturally including a view of the picturesque landscape.

A well-organised trip to Apulia that also left enough scope for personal preferences to be incorporated. The wide range of hotels, from 5-star hotels to farmhouses, was particularly interesting.

For me, this road trip to Apulia was a great adventure, especially as I was travelling alone as a woman. The hotels selected by Geotoura were all first-class. I was particularly impressed by my first hotel accommodation in Montalbano, the Masseria Corte Degli Asini. A beautiful hotel in the middle of nature, with a sustainable, relaxing concept and very good cuisine. The venerable city of Matera with its rich history and special flair.... all in all, it was a very special holiday for me, even though there were some stressful moments at short notice, e.g. in road traffic or with parking situations. But everything went smoothly in retrospect and was very well prepared by Geotoura. I experienced many beautiful moments and sights, and not least the relaxed atmosphere in Italy also relaxed me. Thank you Geotoura for an extraordinary travel experience.

This was our third individual cultural trip organised by Geotoura. The advice on the destinations was again very good. The choice of hotels was also good. Despite all the difficulties caused by the coronavirus, the support and organisation were very competent, courteous and efficient. A big compliment to the team.

A wonderful round trip, especially in Apulia away from the tourist centres. There is hardly a town here that is not worth seeing, and that does not just mean the well-known names of Lecce, Bari or Alberobello. We were particularly enchanted by Monopoli, Gallipoli, Ostuni, Martina Franca, Bisceglie and Monte Sant'Angelo.

With this trip to Apulia, you provided us with a complete carefree package. You took our wishes into account right from the planning stage and provided us with prompt information on the itinerary. Unfortunately, we had to postpone the trip twice, but you always kept in touch with us. Once we finally arrived in Puglia, everything went according to plan. We particularly liked the location of the individual accommodation, as we were always close to the centre and could leave the car parked in the evenings. We can only thank you for your excellent organisation and will certainly plan another trip with you in the future.

That was my first organised round trip. The destination was Sicily. Geotoura chose a great selection of cities and hotels for me. Each hotel had its own charm. I would always use Geotoura again to plan a trip.

Our trip to Sardinia was very well organised. The choice of route and the special touches at the hotels. We would particularly like to highlight: Hotel Bajaloglia in Porto di Castelsardo. Location, friendliness, food.
