Geotoura – Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels – Four categories
Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.
Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.
Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.
Luna de Miel (“honeymoon”): For the honeymoon – span. Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
On this 14-day tour of Sicily, take the time to immerse yourself in the history of the island as well as its picturesque landscapes. Be it on a hike along the coast or around the majestic Mount Etna. On a round trip in a hire car, you can travel at your own pace and decide for yourself where you would like to spend more time.
Experience culture
Experience nature
The Etna region undoubtedly offers the most fascinating natural spectacle during your 14-day tour of Sicily. In the valleys, you will stroll through lush green meadows and forests; vines, citrus fruits and olive groves make up the landscape on the mountain slopes. In contrast, the higher areas with their steaming crevices appear almost unreal and bizarre. Prepare to get goose bumps – and not just because of the cooler temperatures at 2,500 metres.
You will hardly be less astonished when exploring the coast, which stretches for more than 1,000 kilometres and is dotted with breathtaking beaches, hidden coves and steep cliffs. The region around Taormina attracts visitors with the famous beaches of Isola Bella and Giardini-Naxos, while the coast of San Vito lo Capo in the north-west will impress you with its crystal-clear water and fine sand.
Sicily's culinary delights
The culinary history of Sicily is complex. The influence of numerous cultures can still be seen in the dishes today – the result of numerous foreign dominations. Pasta, olive oil, cheese, wine and confectionery are a natural part of the menu, as they are throughout Italy.
The traces of diverse traditions can still be felt everywhere here. For example, couscous, which originated with the Arabs, is served with fish. Almonds, honey, pine nuts and sultanas are not only used in confectionery, but also in pasta dishes. Rice, exotic spices, peppers and potatoes – products introduced from the New World – are also an integral part of Sicilian cuisine. Travelling through Sicily is therefore also a culinary journey through its history.
The authentic Sicily
Get to know a traditional Sicilian craft in Caltagirone. The “town on three hills” is considered the island’s ceramic capital and offers over 80 workshops and shops where you can often look over the shoulders of the artists. You can discover the flavours of Sicily by visiting a winery and tasting the sun-kissed wines.
