Geotoura – Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels – Four categories
Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.
Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.
Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.
Luna de Miel (“honeymoon”): For the honeymoon – span. Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
Experience culture
The harbour once made Genoa rich. Just how rich can be seen in the impressive Cathedral of San Lorenzo. Built between the 12th and 17th centuries, the richly detailed church not only combines different architectural styles. Inside, it also welcomes you with a wonderful play of light through the huge stained glass windows, which refracts thousands of times in the gold jewellery on the walls. Less well known is a much smaller church: San Pietro in Banchi. The small, simple church is nevertheless something special, as it is located on a substructure with shops and represents an exciting patchwork of different influences. Every corner here looks different, as the individual corners were donated and designed by various wealthy Genoese families.
While Genoa is characterised by the countless magnificent buildings of the rich city-state, Florence impresses above all with its famous buildings and big names. History lives here in the form of Savonarola, Leonardo da Vinci and Boccaccio, in Michelangelo, Donatello and Machiavelli. Discover this city as a collection of biographies and you will experience many a touching aha effect.
This 9-day round trip through Tuscany and Liguria in the Cinque Terre takes you from the big stage to magnificent landscapes. The tiny fishing villages on the Riviera of Flowers welcome you with a quintessentially Italian idyll: crystal-clear sea, rugged cliffs and the interlocking houses of the small villages. Here, the world is still in order and the clocks go slower. So take a break and discover gems such as the Doria Castle of Vernazza or the medieval Monterosso on your walk.
Experience nature
On this 12-day round trip, Tuscany is the part of northern Italy that couldn’t be better suited to relaxation and dolce vita: rolling, green and golden hills, towering cypress trees along the roads that wind through these hills, plus endless vineyards and ancient olive groves. So don’t hesitate to pull over in your hire car on the first stage and capture these beautiful scenes forever.
The exciting coastal panorama of Liguria then begins behind the Tuscan postcard landscape. Rugged cliffs that drop directly into the sea can be found here as well as fine, seemingly endless sandy beaches over which crystal-clear sea water washes. Behind them begins a sun-kissed mountain landscape that stretches along the coast and offers magnificent views of the Ligurian Sea, its coast and its hinterland.
Northern Italy – Culinary journey
The cuisine of northern Italy is different from the rest of Italy, but just as delicious and varied. There are many influences from neighbouring countries in the dishes, so you may well find a Sacher torte on the menu. Meat dishes are braised, refined with wine and aromatic herbs or roasted. Freshwater fish from the inland lakes as well as fish and seafood are also frequently on the menu. If your tour of northern Italy takes you to Piedmont, you should try the famous Alba truffles that grow here or dip vegetables in a delicious hot dipping sauce – bagna cauda.
In Liguria and Lombardy, the culinary focus tends to be on fish and vegetables. Famous are not only the cheeses from Lombardy, such as Mascarpone, Gorgonzola, Taleggio or Grana padano, but also the pesto alla genovese.
A rich and varied cuisine, which is mainly characterised by fish and meat, will spoil you in Veneto. This is often accompanied by polenta prepared in different ways and, of course, a good drop of wine, which are plentiful in the north of Italy and will turn your trip into a culinary experience.
