Geotoura – Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels – Four categories
Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.
Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.
Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.
Luna de Miel (“honeymoon”): For the honeymoon – span. Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
Experience culture
The picturesque Renaissance city of Lucca is also known as the city of villas. There are around 500 of them in the city itself and in the surrounding area. One of them is the Villa Guinigi with its tower that rises far above the surrounding roofs, with 230 steps leading up to the roof. From the top, you not only have a marvellous view of the city.
They also stand in the shade of the seven holm oaks that have been growing here for centuries. Florence is no less fascinating on this 14-day tour of northern Italy. Marvel at the third largest church in the world, the richly decorated Santa Maria del Fiore with its striking dome.
Stroll through the Piazza della Signore with its beautiful ensemble before heading to the great masters and visiting Botticelli, Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci in the Uffizi Gallery. With each city, you open up your own personal treasure trove of rich history and magnificent art from the heyday of the Renaissance.
Experience nature
The cities on this 14-day round trip to northern Italy are thrilling adventures. In between, you can relax in marvellous Alpine panoramas, the already Mediterranean-inspired hills in the north of Italy – and on Lake Como. Framed by high mountains and with fine, white sandy beaches, the lake is a treat for the soul.
Perhaps leave the car parked a little longer on this personalised round trip, unroll your towel on the shore and enjoy the fantastic panorama under the Italian sun. If you prefer to explore the lake on foot, we recommend the Chiavenna Valley with its spectacular waterfalls. Here, a torrent shoots over the rough, dark grey rocks a total of 1,800 metres down into the valley – a sight that even impressed Leonardo da Vinci.
Tuscany Culinary delights
The cuisine of Tuscany is simple, rustic and extremely tasty. Bread, and unsalted bread at that, plays a major role here and will accompany you everywhere on your round trip through Tuscany. Fettunta or one of the many crostini variations are often served as a small greeting from the kitchen. Soups are also popular – rich ones such as ribollita or pappa al pomodoro. Vegetable soups such as carabaccia, zuppa di porri or fagioli are also extremely delicious.
Compared to the rest of Italy, the pasta dishes are rather modest. Pappardelle, for example, are delicious – wide ribbon noodles that are often eaten with meat sauces such as game, hare or even rabbit. Meat dishes are generally very popular in Tuscany. Whether boiled, roasted or braised, as bistecca or arista alla fiorentina, ossobuco, stracotto or peposo – the range of meat dishes is immense.
This also applies to vegetables, with beans and black cabbage, cavolo nero, being the frontrunners here and used in numerous dishes. Why not enjoy a picnic in the countryside? With pecorino, finocchiona, an aromatic fennel salami, cantuccini and a good bottle of Chianti or Montepulciano in the basket, this becomes a culinary experience.
The authentic Northern Italy
Close your eyes and take a whiff: during a visit to the small perfumery Lorenzo Villoresi in Florence, you will not only discover the secrets of perfume production. You will also stroll through the marvellous garden, where the scents of the plants for the fine perfumes envelop your senses. Follow the delicate plants on this extraordinary visit during your personalised tour from the garden to the bottle.
