Geotoura – Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels – Four categories
Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.
Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.
Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.
Luna de Miel (“honeymoon”): For the honeymoon – span. Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
Experience culture
The rich and powerful have shaped the face of the Apulian towns. In Alberobello and Matera, however, it is the dwellings of the common people that particularly fascinate visitors today. Wander through picturesque Alberobello with its snow-white trulli. Their round, grey roofs sit like hats on the houses and are often decorated with patterns that can be seen from afar, ranging from the Christian cross to an arrow through a heart.
On this 12-day round trip through Apulia, you will have to bid farewell to this sun-drenched way of life in Matera. The Sassi, ancient cave dwellings, were for a long time the rather modest homes of the town’s citizens. Today, visitors can spend the night there or trace the life of yesteryear in museum apartments. This fascinating insight into a special everyday life is definitely worth leaving your rental car behind and disappearing into the labyrinth of tightly packed houses.
Experience nature
Bizarre rock formations on the coast, endless fields and ancient olive groves on gently rolling hills characterise the landscape through which you will drive in your rental car in Apulia. Some of the trees in these groves are up to 800 years old! Man has long since left his mark on this warm landscape and shaped the land.
Today, it is precisely this cultural landscape that we associate with this playful piece of Italy and the special light in which it is bathed. The Gargano National Park in Apulia is a veritable concentrate of its most beautiful corners. It begins directly on the turquoise blue sea, from which rugged, white cliffs rise. Behind them, crystal-clear coastal lakes spread out and light forests invite you to take a hike in their cooling shade.
In the hinterland, the route then climbs up narrow paths through a barren, sun-kissed landscape, where the rock peeks out from the often wheat-coloured grass in summer. If you want to discover the more unspoilt landscapes on this 12-day round trip through Puglia, then park your rental car and immerse yourself in the wonderful national park on foot.
Apulia - Mediterranean delight
Diversity can also be found in the regional cuisine of Apulia. Freshly caught fish and seafood can of course be found on almost all menus, while meat dishes dominate inland. However, there are also numerous dishes with fresh vegetables such as tomatoes, fennel, broccoli or cime di rapa, the slightly bitter-tasting stem cabbage.
In the narrow streets of Bari, you can look over the shoulders of the women working here on your tour of Puglia and see how orecchiette, the little ear-shaped pasta, is made in front of their own front door. What baguettes are to the French, taralli are to the Pugliese – baked dough curls that are served almost everywhere for dinner.
As in the rest of Italy, cheese is also made in Apulia. Whether it’s canestrato, cacioricotta, straciatella, which is similar to mozzarella, or burrata… Leave it up to your palate to decide and also which wine it likes best with it.
The authentic Apulia
Even today, high-quality products from Puglia are used in local cuisine. Of course, you can also enjoy local delicacies in one of the many family-run restaurants.
But you can also lend a hand yourself. Under the expert guidance of the chef, you will conjure up an original Apulian pasta dish and then enjoy it as part of a typical regional three-course menu. So let yourself be pampered with all your senses on your individual journey with the prospect of a picturesque landscape.
