Geotoura – Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels – Four categories
Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.
Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.
Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.
Luna de Miel (“honeymoon”): For the honeymoon – span. Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
Experience culture
The cultural diversity of Sardinia is particularly evident in the island’s four cities. Olbia impresses with relics of the Nuragic culture and Roman ruins. Nuoro is the heart of Sardinian traditions and literature. Museums such as the Museo del Costume tell the story of the island. Oristano takes you back to the Middle Ages with its historic centre and cathedrals, while the ruins of the Phoenician city of Tharros provide an insight into antiquity. Cagliari, the vibrant capital, combines history and modernity: from the Bastione di Saint Remy with its spectacular views to the narrow alleyways of the Castello district, every corner of the city tells a story.
Sardinias stunning nature
From the emerald green coast of Olbia to the dramatic karst formations of the Supramonte near Nuoro: Sardinia impresses with its varied nature. Oristano and the Sinis lagoon landscape are home to flamingos and other rare bird species. Unspoilt sandy beaches can be found at nearby Capo San Marco, where you can get to know the quiet, unspoilt Sardinia.
Cagliari, on the other hand, impresses with the Molentargius Saline Park, where salt mountains and flamingos characterise the landscape, and the long sandy Poetto beach, which invites you to relax. Hiking enthusiasts will find endless possibilities in the hills and gorges of the inland.
Sardinias culinary delights
Sardinia has a very varied Mediterranean cuisine, in which you can clearly feel the influences from France, Spain and North Africa. As an island, it naturally has an excellent seafood cuisine. It also conjures up rather unusual dishes such as ‘ricci di mare’, a dish with sea urchins that is only cooked between November and April. All year round, however, you can savour octopus and mixed seafood with saffron fregola as well as bottarga, dried and smoked mullet eggs.
Sardinia’s tradition of livestock farming has also enriched its cuisine with some delicious meat dishes. One of the most popular recipes is porcheddu, a piglet slowly grilled on a spit over an open fire. It is impossible to imagine Sardinian cuisine without the barbecue. In addition to fish and meat, you can also go vegetarian – for example with pecorino sardo or other cheese specialities and seadas, delicious deep-fried dumplings. Sardinian wines such as Cannonau, Nuragus, Malvasia and Torbato provide the perfect accompaniment for every dish. You should also try the mirto, a liqueur made from myrtle berries, which is served ice cold.
The authentic Sardinia
A boat tour along the Costa Smeralda near Olbia takes you past secluded bays with turquoise-coloured water. Discover mysterious caves and breathtaking views on a hike in the Supramonte near Nuoro. The culinary markets of Cagliari offer a feast for the senses – here you can sample regional delicacies and experience the Mediterranean flair of the city.
