Geotoura – Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels – Four categories
Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.
Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.
Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.
Luna de Miel (“honeymoon”): For the honeymoon – span. Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
Experience culture
The cultural diversity of Sardinia is particularly evident on this route. In Olbia, you can learn more about the Nuragic culture and the region’s Roman past. Castelsardo is famous for its medieval fortress and the basket weaving museum, which keeps the island’s craft traditions alive.
Cagliari combines history and modernity – the Castello neighbourhood and the Bastione di Saint Remy tell of a glorious past. In Santa Maria Navarrese, small churches and ancient olive trees invite you to travel back in time before Nuoro, the cradle of Sardinian traditions and literary figures, forms the cultural highlight.
Experience nature
This 14-day itinerary combines Sardinia’s diverse landscapes: from the fine sandy beaches and crystal-clear water near Olbia to the dramatic cliffs and hidden bays near Castelsardo. Around Cagliari, you can discover the saline landscapes of the Molentargius Park or relax on the kilometre-long Poetto beach.
Santa Maria Navarrese is also a paradise for nature lovers with wild cliffs and hidden hiking trails along the Ogliastra coast. Finally, Nuoro delights with the Supramonte, a wild mountain landscape that offers ideal conditions for hikers and nature seekers.
Sardinia and its culinary treasures
Sardinia has a very varied Mediterranean cuisine, in which you can clearly feel the influences from France, Spain and North Africa. As an island, it naturally has an excellent seafood cuisine. It also conjures up rather unusual dishes such as ‘ricci di mare’, a dish with sea urchins that is only cooked between November and April. All year round, however, you can savour octopus and mixed seafood with saffron fregola as well as bottarga, dried and smoked mullet eggs.
Sardinia’s tradition of livestock farming has also enriched its cuisine with some delicious meat dishes. One of the most popular recipes is porcheddu, a piglet slowly grilled on a spit over an open fire. It is impossible to imagine Sardinian cuisine without the barbecue. In addition to fish and meat, you can also go vegetarian – for example with pecorino sardo or other cheese specialities and seadas, delicious deep-fried dumplings. Sardinian wines such as Cannonau, Nuragus, Malvasia and Torbato provide the perfect accompaniment for every dish. You should also try the mirto, a liqueur made from myrtle berries, which is served ice cold.
The authentic Sardinia
A walk through the steep, cobbled streets of Castelsardo is rewarded with a breathtaking view over the sea. A visit to the ancient ruins of Tharros near Oristano will immerse you in the history of Sardinia.
Get to know Sardinia’s wild side up close on a tour through the mystical caves and gorges of the Supramonte near Nuoro.
