Geotoura – Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels – Four categories
Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.
Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.
Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.
Luna de Miel (“honeymoon”): For the honeymoon – span. Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
Experience culture
Ortigia, the old town of what was once the most important city on the island, lies off the coast of Syracuse. After just an hour’s drive from Catania, you will find yourself in the heart of baroque Sicily. Architecture lovers will be enchanted by Modica and Ragusa. These wonderful examples of Italian architecture will also captivate you as you stroll along the cobbled streets and alleys.
Or would you like a little more antiquity? The round theatre of Segesta gives you an idea of how the elite were entertained in those days, just as the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento evokes the time of the ancient gods.
After this journey through time, you will arrive in Palermo, a melting pot of peoples, cultures and styles. Be amazed by the splendour of the Palazzo dei Normanni. Let yourself be enchanted by great theatre in the magnificent walls of the Teatro Massimo Vittorio Emanuele, or discover regional artists in the Palazzo Abatellis.
Experience Nature
Sicily is an island of colours: turquoise seas, yellow sandstone and ripe fields, dark green groves and the black-grey of its rugged peaks. This landscape could have been painted by Leonardo da Vinci. Here in Sicily, a piece of picture-postcard Italy is at home.
Simply get out of your rental car and set off on foot to explore lush vineyards, past towering cypress trees, or perhaps take a hike through the fine sand of its wonderful beaches.
Sicily's culinary delights
The culinary history of Sicily is complex. The influence of numerous cultures can still be seen in the dishes today – the result of numerous foreign dominations. Pasta, olive oil, cheese, wine and confectionery are a natural part of the menu, as they are throughout Italy.
The traces of diverse traditions can still be felt everywhere here. For example, couscous, which originated with the Arabs, is served with fish. Almonds, honey, pine nuts and sultanas are not only used in confectionery, but also in pasta dishes. Rice, exotic spices, peppers and potatoes – products introduced from the New World – are also an integral part of Sicilian cuisine. Travelling through Sicily is therefore also a culinary journey through its history.
The authentic Sicily
Take a moment to leave the sun of Sicily behind you on your tour. The descent into the catacombs is well worth it. In the dark corridors under the island capital of Palermo, you will enter the silent realm of the Capuchin friars, where the little Rosalia Lombardo also rests, looking as if she is still sleeping.
When you return to daylight during your tour of Cefalù, stop at the fishing harbour to soak up a little Arabic flair at the medieval lavatoio, which the oriental lords of Sicily once wrested from the rock itself. From the cool walls, you can then climb up to the Rocca di Cefalù, the cliff that towers over the city and offers you a spectacular view of the maze of streets below and the turquoise sea.
