Geotoura – Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels – Four categories
Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.
Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.
Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.
Luna de Miel (“honeymoon”): For the honeymoon – span. Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
Experience culture
Narrow winding roads take you in your hire car to one of the most beautiful historic towns in Tuscany: Volterra. Surrounded by its old city walls, built by the Etruscans, the city is enthroned on a 550 metre high ridge. Once you have entered the city through one of the old city gates, you will find yourself in a maze of streets, alleyways and squares.
Just let yourself drift through Volterra and discover the artisan workshops, of which there are several here in the alabaster city. Take a break in the Piazza dei Priori and enjoy an espresso while admiring the square’s ensemble of prestigious palazzi, some of which date back to the 13th century.
Continue your 9-day tour of Tuscany to San Gimignano, also known by the locals as the “City of Towers”. This refers to the town’s 14 towers, including the 51-metre-high Torre della Rognosa. The towers were once built by rich aristocratic families who wanted to emphasise their status, but also used the towers as a defence system. The towers also immerse you in the history of the inhabitants of San Gimignano.
Experience nature
Hilltops with ancient castles, endless vineyards and olive groves on the slopes, with the unmistakable peaks of cypress trees in between … Tuscany is at its Toskana best where its good wines come from: in the Chianti region.
Here, the clocks go a little slower and you can immerse yourself in the relaxed, Mediterranean lifestyle. If you want to reach for the sky, then reach for the stars in Chianti. You will find the observatory for this when you pass by San Donato in Poggio on your 9-day Tuscany round trip.
Tuscany Culinary delights
The cuisine of Tuscany is simple, rustic and extremely tasty. Bread, and unsalted bread at that, plays a major role here and will accompany you everywhere on your round trip through Tuscany. Fettunta or one of the many crostini variations are often served as a small greeting from the kitchen. Soups are also popular – rich ones such as ribollita or pappa al pomodoro. Vegetable soups such as carabaccia, zuppa di porri or fagioli are also extremely delicious.
Compared to the rest of Italy, the pasta dishes are rather modest. Pappardelle, for example, are delicious – wide ribbon noodles that are often eaten with meat sauces such as game, hare or even rabbit. Meat dishes are generally very popular in Tuscany. Whether boiled, roasted or braised, as bistecca or arista alla fiorentina, ossobuco, stracotto or peposo – the range of meat dishes is immense.
This also applies to vegetables, with beans and black cabbage, cavolo nero, being the frontrunners here and used in numerous dishes. Why not enjoy a picnic in the countryside? With pecorino, finocchiona, an aromatic fennel salami, cantuccini and a good bottle of Chianti or Montepulciano in the basket, this becomes a culinary experience.
