Between two cultures

15-day Montenegro and Italy tour

Dubrovnik - Kotor - Podgorica - Ulcinj - Herceg Novi - Alberobello - Lecce - Matera - Bari

Your journey at a glance

Between dolce vita and oriental influences, a wonderful magic unfolds on this 15-day round trip through Montenegro and Italy. Discover how the cultures, history and art of the two countries merge in places, while in others they could not be more different. The almost tropical Herceg Novi with its palm trees and slightly oriental flair offers a wonderful contrast to the elegant town houses of Bari - whose old town with its winding alleyways, small houses and shops is reminiscent of many a Montenegrin village. It is this tension between contrasts and similarities that makes this individualised round trip so appealing.

Geotoura – Hotel concept

When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.

We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.

Boutique Hotels – Four categories

Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.

Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.

Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.

Luna de Miel (“honeymoon”): For the honeymoon – span. Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …

Character of this travel idea

The countries of the Adriatic have always been in close contact with each other and yet have retained their own character. This 15-day round trip through Italy and Montenegro shows you precisely this synthesis of similarities and contrasts. Plunge right into the heart of this exciting adventure!

Experience Culture

The narrow, cobbled streets of Kotor’s old town centre are untouched by cars. They are far too narrow for any traffic. It is therefore best to park your hire car on the outskirts of the city and immerse yourself in the labyrinth, where you will discover the beautiful cathedral of St. Tripuna and the small church of St. Luka, among other things.

Things get livelier in Podgorica on this individual 15-day round trip through Italy and Montenegro. The Montenegrin capital attracts visitors with its numerous museums and galleries. One of the most fascinating buildings here, however, is the Saborni Hram Hristovog Vaskrsenja, the Cathedral of the Resurrection, whose lighting sometimes makes it appear almost unearthly in the evening.

In Matera, you will end up at churches – and homes – of a completely different kind: caves carved into the rock have long served as places of worship and homes and some of them are still in use today.

Experience nature

Lake Scutari will enchant you with its wild, unspoilt landscape. Discover ancient churches on its islands, fine sand on its beaches and the picturesque forests of Montenegro beyond. In a hire car, you will end up out here in one of Montenegro’s true paradises.

This 15-day round trip through Italy and Montenegro takes you to another paradise in Otranto, Italy. Rugged cliffs, bizarre rock formations and a turquoise blue sea invite you to hop on a boat and get up close and personal with the elemental forces of Mother Nature – and discover a breathtakingly beautiful landscape in the process.

Montenegro - unadulteratedly delicious

Not only the landscape of Montenegro is rich in contrasts, but also its cuisine. Freshly caught fish and seafood, smoked carp or bleak from Lake Skadar and gratinated eel make the hearts of fish lovers beat faster.

Do you prefer meat? Then how about air-dried ham or sausage from Njeguši? Or maybe you prefer lamb or goat meat boiled in milk and cooked under the bell, which is also roasted under the bell together with potatoes. These typical dishes can be found on almost all Montenegrin menus. The country’s cheese specialities are also delicious, such as the cheese from Njeguši, the cheese from Pljevlja, which has been awarded a quality label, leaf cheese or the kajmak produced in the north.

High-quality olive oils, honey, morels, dried apricots, figs and the popular cornelian cherry are other ingredients that flavour dishes, desserts and juices. A good meal also needs a good drop of wine. A particularly good wine is the white Krstač, the Vranac or Čubrica, which is aged for years in wooden barrels. Let your palate be spoilt by the regional finesse.

The authentic Italy and Montenegro

Leave the hire car at Alberobello, hop on your bike and enjoy the picturesque Itria Valley on the way. Here you cycle over gently rolling hills, through ancient olive groves and past small settlements. Stop on a hilltop from time to time and enjoy the pretty postcard panorama of this valley.

I would like to thank Geotoura for the fantastic tour of the Peloponnese. I felt well looked after from start to finish, all my individual requests for the route were addressed and the tips on the route were great. The accompanying material - the personalised travel guide - was great. And everything worked out perfectly on site. The accommodation ranged from great to fantastic and the people there were super friendly and welcoming. The mix of sea and culture was just right. I'd be happy to go again and again, I'm already looking forward to my next trip with Geotoura.

‘Handing over’ the organisation of our trip to Scotland to Geotoura was the best decision! Everything worked out perfectly, the choice of hotels was superb and the tour (from Glasgow up the west coast to Thurso in the north and then back down the east coast to Edinburgh) was perfect. The visit to the Military Tattoo in Edinburgh was the highlight and the crowning glory of our trip. Even the weather played along and it only rained on two days in total during our three-week trip. Thanks to the organisers - it was perfect.

If you have a flair for Arabic, Oriental and African customs and traditions, Andalusia is the right place for you. It's amazing what the Andalusians have done with all these influences. From snow-capped mountains to the sea in 2 hours by car. From fertile regions to absolute drought in less than 2 hours by car. Geographically as interesting as it is culinary.

We organised our holiday trip with Geotoura for the first time. The travel plan to Madeira with hotels and company car was perfectly organised by Geotoura in advance. Our wishes were fully accepted and implemented. We were travelling as 2 adults with 3 children and were satisfied throughout. We will organise our next major holiday with Geotoura again.

The trip to Northern Spain with Geotoura was very successful overall. Beautiful hotels, great cities, some of which could be described as as yet undiscovered gems, travel planning that worked one hundred per cent and saved us a lot of our own time. We have already recommended Geotoura to others and would book here again at any time. Thank you very much for the wonderful moments!
