Geotoura – Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels – Four categories
Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.
Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.
Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.
Luna de Miel (“honeymoon”): For the honeymoon – span. Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of
Experience culture
Spotlight on a real highlight in the heart of Portugal! On your 8-day round trip through the Alentejo, you will come across a little-known gem of Portuguese history: Elvas. Here, you will hardly know where to turn first. Perhaps you would like to explore the old town first? Then you can enjoy the beauty of the Church of Nossa Senhora da Assunção with its Manueline portal and the ornate 17th-century azulejos.
Or perhaps you would like to start by exploring the surrounding area? From the city gates, you can see the imposing Amoreira aqueduct, whose rows of arches stretch eight kilometres across the countryside. The Nossa Senhora da Graça fortress is also overwhelming. The star-shaped complex is an eloquent witness to past conflicts between Portugal and Spain – and a masterpiece of architecture that is unparalleled.
Experience nature
Storks, pelicans, flamingos, spoonbills, dolphins, etc. In the nature reserve at the Sado estuary, you are just a silent guest and observer. Here, the birds are the kings and the marine mammals are the playful clowns that come curiously swimming to the boat. On the dunes, you will be greeted by delicate grasses and small, colourful flowers. Between the mudflats, salt lakes and the open sea, you will find yourself in the middle of a unique habitat where you can take a closer look to discover its secrets.
A completely different Portugal awaits you on the route of this 8-day round trip through the Alentejo in the heights and valleys of the Serra de São Mamede. The mountains are lush green and home to countless chestnut, cork and holm oak trees. So feel free to pull over with your rental car and explore this green oasis. Discover the countless plants at your feet and raise your eyes to the majestic eagles and griffon vultures.
Portugal culinary delights
Portugal’s cuisine is as varied as its landscapes. This is particularly evident in the Portuguese national dish bacalhau, for which there is a recipe for every day of the year, as the saying goes. In addition to a large selection of fish and seafood dishes meat dishes of pork, veal or kid, soups and stews also play a major role, especially in the interior.
More and more restaurants are focussing on modern and innovative cuisine based on traditional recipes using the finest olive oil and local ingredients. Of course, a good wine should not be missing here. In addition to the famous port wine, the wines of the Douro and the Alentejo are particularly worth tasting.
Like the Spanish, the Portuguese also have their appetisers, the petiscos. In addition to cheese and barnacles, bolinhos de bacalhau or dumplings with various fillings are among the small appetisers. But the Portuguese also like it sweet. The pastéis de nata, originally from Lisbon, are particularly popular, as are the ovos moles typical of Aveiro – little calorie bombs but definitely worth to taste.
The authentic Alentejo
Dolphins are more than just playful and curious. They are small, very distinctive personalities. And you can get up close and personal with these personalities from the boat. This makes a visit to the fascinating landscape of the Sado estuary a very special and emotional experience.
You will get to know the people of the country on your personal trip through the taverns and tapas bars of the capital. Now is the time to sniff, taste and enjoy on your individual tour, and that in the most beautiful and some hidden corners of Lisbon.
