Geotoura – Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels – Four categories
Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.
Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.
Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.
Luna de Miel (“honeymoon”): For the honeymoon – span. Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
Experience culture
After Bilbao, León is not only a stop on the Way of St James, but also a cultural melting pot with countless facets. For example, stop by the Church of the Virgen del Camino and the former pilgrims’ hospice Hostal de San Marcos, whose building serves as a monastery, prison and hotel, among other things.
Visit the MUSAC, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Castilla y León, where the sight of the building alone is a delight. Would you prefer to immerse yourself in fascinating biographies on this 21-day round trip through Spain and Portugal? Then follow in the footsteps of the explorer Vasco da Gama and the poet Fernando Pessoa in Lisbon, who found their final resting place within the impressive walls of the Monasteiro dos Jerónimos.
You will get goosebumps when you stand in front of a historic painting in Madrid. Here at the Reina Sofia Museum, you will not only encounter the sometimes bizarre worlds of Miró and Léger, but also Picasso’s perhaps most moving work, Guernica. A visit to the postmodern ensemble of the Ciudad de las Artes y de las Ciencias in Valencia, on the other hand, is charming and sometimes even playful, offering many a highlight from the largest aquarium in Europe to a spectacular cinema and numerous modern art exhibitions.
Experience nature
Have you already tasted the wine in Porto? Then why not visit one of the most beautiful wine landscapes on the Iberian Peninsula, the Douro Valley. Here, the endless wine terraces meander along the course of the river and form a unique landscape. Discover a region with an even longer history on the 21-day round trip through Spain and Portugal in Cáceres.
People settled in the Maltravieso cave 25,000 years ago and left behind fascinating cave paintings. One painting has even been dated to 64,000 years old. It is not far from this cave to other Palaeolithic caves such as Santa Ana, El Conejar and Castañar de Ibor. A phenomenon of a different kind awaits you in the Spanish capital.
Especially in summer, the Parque de Retiro in the heart of Madrid is a real treat. And while you’re there, you should look for the Palacio de Cristal. The huge greenhouse dating back to 1887 is well worth a look in itself. The view of the park from inside is wonderful, especially on cool summer evenings.
Portugal culinary delights
Portugal’s cuisine is as varied as its landscapes. This is particularly evident in the Portuguese national dish bacalhau, for which there is a recipe for every day of the year, as the saying goes. In addition to a large selection of fish and seafood dishes meat dishes of pork, veal or kid, soups and stews also play a major role, especially in the interior.
More and more restaurants are focussing on modern and innovative cuisine based on traditional recipes using the finest olive oil and local ingredients. Of course, a good wine should not be missing here. In addition to the famous port wine, the wines of the Douro and the Alentejo are particularly worth tasting.
Like the Spanish, the Portuguese also have their appetisers, the petiscos. In addition to cheese and barnacles, bolinhos de bacalhau or dumplings with various fillings are among the small appetisers. But the Portuguese also like it sweet. The pastéis de nata, originally from Lisbon, are particularly popular, as are the ovos moles typical of Aveiro – little calorie bombs but definitely worth to taste.
