Geotoura – Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels – Four categories
Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.
Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.
Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.
Luna de Miel (“honeymoon”): For the honeymoon – span. Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
Experience culture
Seville is not only famous for its barber. Its architectural treasures make a stroll through the city a unique pleasure. Admire the city’s cathedral, the largest Gothic church of its kind in Spain. Be enchanted by the delicate Moorish elements of the Alcázar or look down from the bridge over the murmuring water in Plaza de España and out over the square, whose historical ensemble is a unique feast for the eyes.
On your 15-day tour of Andalusia, you will also discover that Seville can also be modern and unusual. This is demonstrated by the futuristic Metropol Parasol, which stretches up towards the sky in Plaza de la Encarnación. The former lords of Cordoba called the region “Al-Andaluz”. What has remained is not only the name of Andalusia, but also the Moorish architecture that still characterises Cordoba today.
And something else adorns the city’s face in every corner: flowers. Millions of blossoms transform some alleys into a veritable sea of colour. So it’s not always the big, well-known highlights that touch us the most…
Experience nature
Nerja is actually known for its picturesque sandy beaches, surrounded by rugged cliffs. But hidden below the ground is an equally fascinating natural spectacle: the Caves of Nerja. The locals call the imposing stalactite caves, whose marble cathedral is adorned with thousands of stalactites, the “Cathedral of Prehistory”.
Your rental car will take you directly to this natural wonder, where people lived as long as 30,000 years ago, as evidenced by food remains, ceramics, bones and other finds. So when you descend into the jaws of Mother Earth, you are also entering a realm long before our calendar. Another stop on your 15-day round trip through Andalusia is at least as impressive.
The Tajo Gorge in Ronda cuts deep into the rock down to the Guadavelín and divides the city in two. So you should at least be a little bit free from giddiness to enjoy the view from the Puente Nuevo, whose fairytale arches span the gorge.
Andalusia culinary delights
In addition to its authentic Mediterranean cuicine, Andalusia is celebrated chiefly for its tapas. The ‘tapeo’ is an Andalusian custom in which the small appetisers are eaten in company and accompanied by a glass of wine or the increasingly popular Spanish beer. In other words, eating is a sociable experience in which the restaurant is often changed for the next bite.
Moorish influences can also be found in Andalusian dishes, for example in the use of spices such as saffron, cumin, oranges, almonds and honey. Fish and seafood are naturally at the top of the menu, especially on the coast.
In the interior, on the other hand, it is more hearty meat dishes that tantalise the palate. A particularly refreshing drink is the sherry produced in Andalusia – well chilled and ranging from really sweet to very dry, there is something for every taste.
Not forgetting the Jamón Ibérico – sliced into wafer-thin slices – which you should not miss out on when travelling through Andalusia.
The authentic Andalusia
Málaga offers many charming landscapes. The Caminito del Rey leads you to a special jewel, the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes gorge. Nestled against the steeply sloping rock, you will hike along the small wooden paths straight into a real natural wonder of Andalusia.
The rock face above you continues to rise steeply. Deep below you, the waters of the Guadalhorce flow leisurely towards the sea. Here you have truly arrived in the rugged, attractively beautiful heart of Andalusia.
