Geotoura – Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels – Four categories
Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.
Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.
Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.
Luna de Miel (“honeymoon”): For the honeymoon – span. Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
Experience culture
It may not be as well known as the Alhambra, but it is at least as extraordinarily beautiful: the Mezquita Cathedral in Córdoba. Built in the 8th century as a mosque, it was later converted into a church, but retained the fascinating arches of red and white stone inside, supported by countless columns. You can lose yourself in this forest of columns and dream yourself back to times gone by.
The gigantic Puente Romano, which spans the Guadalquivir in 16 arches, is even older. It is a testament in stone to the ingenious architecture of Roman builders. However, you will not find the city’s playful charm in Cordoba’s very large buildings on this 21-day round trip through Andalusia.
It is mainly hidden in the small patios, often lavishly decorated with flowers, of which there are many in the San Basilio district.
Experience nature
The picturesque mountain slopes of the Alpujarras are also known as the “Gateway to the Sierra Nevada”. Wander through spectacular gorges or discover the traditional Andalusian way of life in the mountain villages. In the lower parts of the mountains you will find fruit, almond and walnut trees, while in the higher-lying nature reserves you will find numerous indigenous plant species.
Or perhaps you would prefer to explore the shifting sand dunes of the Costa de la Luz, the countless vineyards and olive groves, or the green forests and open, dry steppes of the hinterland. With a rental car, you can decide for yourself which side of Andalusia you want to see on this individual round trip.
Andalusia culinary delights
In addition to its authentic Mediterranean cuicine, Andalusia is celebrated chiefly for its tapas. The ‘tapeo’ is an Andalusian custom in which the small appetisers are eaten in company and accompanied by a glass of wine or the increasingly popular Spanish beer. In other words, eating is a sociable experience in which the restaurant is often changed for the next bite.
Moorish influences can also be found in Andalusian dishes, for example in the use of spices such as saffron, cumin, oranges, almonds and honey. Fish and seafood are naturally at the top of the menu, especially on the coast.
In the interior, on the other hand, it is more hearty meat dishes that tantalise the palate. A particularly refreshing drink is the sherry produced in Andalusia – well chilled and ranging from really sweet to very dry, there is something for every taste.
Not forgetting the Jamón Ibérico – sliced into wafer-thin slices – which you should not miss out on when travelling through Andalusia.
The authentic Andalusia
For horse lovers, Andalusia is associated with one thing above all: the proud, white Andalusian horse. The Cartujano horses are considered to be the purest form of this noble breed and were once the horses of kings. With a rental car, you can set off on a journey into the history of the rich and powerful and their horses. When you visit the Cartuja stud farm, you will get up close to these noble horses and see them in their element in the arena.
