Geotoura – Hotel concept
When we add a hotel to our programme, we don’t just look for a high standard of quality. We prefer accommodation that is typical of the country, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: panoramic views, a particularly loving interior, a location in a historic centre, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We divide our hotels into four Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels – Four categories
Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.
Especial (“Special”): hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with extraordinary charm. Perfect for a classic cultural tour.
Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.
Luna de Miel (“Honeymoon”): For your honeymoon – Spanish: Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something special…
Character of this travel idea
Experience culture
The Alpujarras are high up. The small, bright white houses of the famous mountain villages cling to the slopes of the imposing mountains. Here you climb many a staircase in narrow alleyways between the flower-decorated facades. The smell of delicious food in the kitchens and the fresh flavour of the mountains – and in Trevélez, the aroma of the local air-dried ham.
They are still at home here, the old traditions that the friendly people are only too happy to share with you. The contrast to another stop on this 9-day round trip through Andalusia could not be greater: the Alhambra. The former seat of the Nasrid rulers is an oriental masterpiece consisting of an entire ensemble. The citadel impresses above all with its mighty, fortified walls, while the palaces and gardens will enchant you with their countless ornate details.
Enjoy the sometimes almost tropical flair in the gardens while watching the water features, or discover the intricate craftsmanship of the windows, arches, columns and ceilings in the palaces. And before you know it, you’ll be right in the middle of the golden age of the Moors in Spain.
Experience nature
The Alpujarras were once the last bastion of the Moors in the country. Today, in addition to its buildings, it is above all the breathtaking landscape that attracts people. Between bright sunshine and glistening snow, you set off from your hire car into a multifaceted wilderness: white villages, green terraces, rushing torrents, charming valleys and rugged heights make the hikes through this mountain range between the Sierra Nevada and the vast ocean so incomparably beautiful.
This 9-day round trip through Andalusia in the El Torcal Nature Park is almost bizarre. Wind and weather have shaped one of the most extraordinary karst landscapes in Europe. What today stretches into the sky in sometimes dramatic shapes was once a seabed. So why not take a closer look?
Perhaps you will discover one of the millions of years old inhabitants in the light grey stone. Or hike up to the Mirador de las Ventanillas and gaze into the distance over the breathtaking panorama of Málaga and, on a clear day, as far as Africa.
Andalusia culinary delights
In addition to its authentic Mediterranean cuicine, Andalusia is celebrated chiefly for its tapas. The ‘tapeo’ is an Andalusian custom in which the small appetisers are eaten in company and accompanied by a glass of wine or the increasingly popular Spanish beer. In other words, eating is a sociable experience in which the restaurant is often changed for the next bite.
Moorish influences can also be found in Andalusian dishes, for example in the use of spices such as saffron, cumin, oranges, almonds and honey. Fish and seafood are naturally at the top of the menu, especially on the coast.
In the interior, on the other hand, it is more hearty meat dishes that tantalise the palate. A particularly refreshing drink is the sherry produced in Andalusia – well chilled and ranging from really sweet to very dry, there is something for every taste.
Not forgetting the Jamón Ibérico – sliced into wafer-thin slices – which you should not miss out on when travelling through Andalusia.
The authentic Andalusia
You can also hike along the olive groves of the Sierra Subbética on your own. But you will learn more about the ancient trees, their fruit and the oil if you take the farmer who owns these groves with you. Hear about the importance of climate, soil and traditional tree care and what makes a really good olive oil. Of course, you will also be allowed to taste the oil – and you will probably never want to have any other oil in your kitchen again.
