Lana Habermann
I invite you to a journey through Italy

“Italy fascinates me every time I visit with its beautiful landscapes, but also because for me it is a window into the past. The time of the Romans and Etruscans is still tangible in so many places. I am particularly moved by Vesuvius and its surroundings. The fertile volcanic ash has produced a lush flora here.

And yet, virtually next door, I can look deep into the history that this mountain of fire has preserved, namely in Herculaneum and Pompeii. For me, Italy is also the country of connoisseurs with first-class wines and a light but very delicious cuisine. My favourite place to enjoy it is on the terrace of an Italian villa with a view of the postcard idyll of Tuscany.

By the way: if you wish, your tour of Italy can begin at home. Depending on where you are departing from, we will also plan and organise the route and your accommodation in the transit countries up to your destination.“

Tips for your journey through Italy.

Driving in Italy

As a rule, the driver of a hire car in Italy must be at least 21 years old. Some providers make an exception. However, they often charge a risk surcharge. For higher vehicle classes, a minimum age of 23 or even 25 years may be required. It is also possible that a minimum driving experience is required. Depending on the provider and the vehicle class rented, this varies between one year and five years. Please note: You will not be able to hire a car without a credit card.

Driver's licence

It is possible to hire a car in Italy with a German driving licence without any problems. In Italy, the national driving licences of the EU member states are recognised. Of course, the driving licence must be valid. Therefore, please check the expiry date in good time before travelling.

Traffic rules in Italy

In Italy, traffic drives on the right. If there are no traffic signs regulating right of way, 'right before left' applies on roundabouts. This means that vehicles on roundabouts do not always have right of way. On mountain roads, vehicles travelling uphill have right of way. Public buses always have right of way. On motorways and outside built-up areas, dipped headlights or daytime running lights must also be switched on during the day. Restricted traffic zones have been introduced in the centre of many cities, recognisable by a 'zona traffico limitado' sign. These zones are usually reserved for residents. Entry to these zones is often monitored by a video control system, and anyone who enters without authorisation must expect a fine.

Tolls

A toll is charged on most motorways depending on the vehicle class and distance travelled. You can calculate the toll fee yourself in advance: www.autostrade.de . You can pay in cash at all toll stations, often also by debit or credit card. The yellow marked Telepass lanes (marked with a T) are reserved for vehicles with corresponding transponders.

Parking rules in Italy

If there are white markings on the edge of the carriageway, you can usually park free of charge. However, please pay attention to additional signage. In some cities, such as Bolzano, car parks marked in white are reserved for residents. Blue markings indicate pay and display car parks. Some parking ticket machines require the car registration number to be entered before payment. In many cities, parking tickets can also be purchased via an app (e.g. EasyPark). Yellow lines mean no parking. There is an absolute parking ban on black and yellow lines.

Speed limits in Italy

A limit of 50 km/h applies within built-up areas, a maximum of 90 km/h is permitted outside, 110 km/h on dual carriageways and 130 km/h on motorways.
